On May 29th, Jena VanElslander and Randy Castillo performed a dance for a nearly empty Times Square. Five months and 13 pop up performances later, the TSQ Project has has grown to include 109 artists from across the theater and Broadway community. SHHS Presents: Margaret McKinnon Staruch, Class of 1977 Mrs. Margaret McKinnon Staruch, lifelong resident of Yonkers and graduate of Sacred Heart High School, has become a pillar of our local community. While a student at SHHS, Margaret enjoyed her involvement with the Glee Club, Radio Club, and contributed to the school Newspaper and Yearbook. She recalls that her favorite faculty member was gym teacher Miss Diane Skalicky because, I was not very athletic and she never made... me feel bad about it. She was patient and enjoyed her job. Margaret treasures the lifelong friendships she made at SHHS, sharing that, I loved everything about high school. The whole experience was one of the best times of my life! After graduating from SHHS in 1977, Margaret was employed with a publishing company. When her daughter Victoria (Tori) was born, Margaret turned her caring spirit towards her community. She dedicated herself to the early childhood care of dozens of children from the area. Yonkers Police Officers, Firemen, DPW workers and teachers trusted their children with Margaret - over the years she nurtured thirty-one children. An active resident of North Yonkers, Margaret rarely has free time on her hands. She was a Girl Scout leader at Sacred Heart Grade School; board member and Parish Council Secretary at Sacred Heart Church; was a Police Athletic League of Yonkers board member and Chairperson of their poster contest; a member of the Community Outreach Committee for Saint John's Riverside Hospital; volunteered for the North Yonkers Preservation; board member and Secretary for the North Yonkers Boys and Girls Club; and is currently a board member for the Shattemuc Yacht Club. Margaret was recognized for her years of community involvement by being appointed as an Aide to the Grand Marshall of the Yonkers St. Patrick's Day Parade, and was also a recipient of the Women of Excellence Award during Mayor Phil Amicone's administration. Margaret is the loving wife to Peter and dedicated mother to Victoria (also a SHHS graduate - Class of 2010). In the future, she hopes to spend time traveling, taking photographs and relaxing with friends and family on a boat. Thank you for so generously sharing yourself with the Sacred Heart community for so many years. North Yonkers is a better place because of you and we are grateful to have you as a part of the Heart!
