Project Attica 06.12.2020

At Project Attica, we have always denounced discriminatory, oppressive and offensive immigration policies that have been relied on to separate and detain countless families in inhuman conditions. That is why this year we decided to travel to the United States-Mexico border, to Ciudad Juarez, to share our workshops and plant some seeds of love in the community. Additionally, at this moment there is an unprecedented Immigration crisis where Central American families are not bei...ng allowed to cross the border and file their asylum claims. Instead, these families are staying in makeshift tents out in the open. The temperatures right now are very low and they need jackets, quilts, and winter clothes. If you have any of these items in your home please feel free to reach out to us so we can bring it to Juarez to distribute it with community leaders and with @LauraBustillosJaquez, a Documentary Filmmaker from the border, who has been our angel and guardian during this initiative to take Project Attica there. https://www.gofundme.com/f/project-attica-in-ciudad-juarez https://www.facebook.com/events/2644266232301405/ See more

As promised, here are some of the highlights of yesterday's healing and compassion artivist workshop where we engaged with the Latinx community of Corona, #Queens in mask giveaways and artivism tshirts with messages of #peace and #love. Some people might forget that this was the epicenter of #covid19 not too long ago. Coming back to work with our disproportionately impacted community was integral to our work. #community #empowerment #createart #spreadlove #queens #nyc #palante

It was a pleasure being a guest on the On The Count radio show talking about the importance of healing circles and restorative justice especially during a pandemic where many people are experiencing trauma, loss, and violence without effective mechanisms to heal and process those feelings. We know that communities of color are being disproportionately impacted by COVID19 so we must rise to the challenge and begin to build resiliency through restorative circles.

Breaking: Frieds, artivist, community joins us for our first of a series of virtual workshops during this pandemic aimed at keeping us engaged in solidarity, with our creative spirit, empowered and expressing our truths. To that end, our first workshop is about radio and podcasting 101, the do's and don'ts, and how to sustain one. We need more of our voices uplifted in our communities and radio and podcasting is a great way to accomplish that. The workshop will be on May 12 a...t 6:00pm. You must email us at [email protected] in advance to reserve your spot. Materials we will use include: scissors, paper, magazines or newspapers, colors (markers, pens, crayons), glue, and your imagination. We want to thank @qnsarts for sponsoring this workshop and making it a reality. #digitalartivism #stayingconnected #art #radio podcasting #queens #newyork #solidarity #notforprofit See more
