Marine Corp veteran Steve Palmer shares how our housing and mental health programs helped him recover and thrive in civilian life. June is #PrideMonth. Marsha P. Johnson was at the helm of the Stonewall Uprising, which was a catalyst for the gay rights movement. We are proud to run Marsha’s House, our shelter for LGBTQI+ young adults that is named in her honor. Joyce was excelling in her job with UPSuntil she was struck by an SUV and badly injured, setting her back physically and emotionally. She lost her job and moved into a shelter. Once there, she discovered our Next Step Internship Program and thrived in her role at our Ana’s Place shelter. She was hired as a Residential Aide and is saving money to move into her own apartment. My colleagues at Ana’s Place are so supportive, she says. I’m proud of myself for achieving my goals, and I hope I can inspire others to do the same. #ProjectRenewalWorks

Today is Overdose Awareness Day, which aims to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of overdose. Every time we lose a community member to overdose, we plant a tree in our Third Street garden in their memory. The uncertainty of the COVID-19 era can exacerbate anxiety, depression, and substance use disorderwhich means our health care and recovery services are more important than ever. Our innovative programs like The Recovery Center and The Detox take a harm-reduction approach, helping participants reach their individual goals on the path to renewal.
