Basically all these development companies are just a bunch of slick salesmen who sell the land owner a deal, contract others out to do the work and then disappear (or should I say, become another company, or go out of business, or bankrupt). I suspect a few years after the project is finished those $1,000.00 - $2,000.00 per acre annual lease payments and those large annual PILOT payments to the town will dry end and there will be nothing anyone can do about it because the people they sign the contract with or subsequent mergers will be out of business. I have a friend that negotiates for green energy service installs for a large institution. Said: It's quite common in this business for the financier to sell the array after it's finished, kind of like a mortgage. You may end up dealing with an entirely different company than the one you started working with. Once the government money that dries up that is spurring the existence of all these green energy companies, most will be gone. And all these early adopters of solar farms will have is nothing more than farm fields filled with metal and glass monstrosities. I have a small farm that is being surrounded and solicited by these solar salesmen. I work with vendor negotiations most of my career and these guys are a slick bunch. They make that hypothetical used car salesmen seem like a great guy."
