We are pleased to introduce Sarah Briggs who will teach Chem II, O Chem II, and Env Chemistry this spring. My name is Sarah Briggs, and I am a chemist and teacher by trade. I am very passionate about helping students learn about the importance of science in their everyday lives, and how it can help solve societal problems- especially climate and environmental issues! I studied English and Chemistry for my undergraduate degree at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and then ...I obtained a Master of Arts in Chemistry from Wesleyan and Master of Sciences in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota. As much as I love Chemistry, I also love the literary arts and appreciate all of the ways the sciences intersect with other disciplines, whether we initially recognize it or not. Personally, I am a nature-lover and enjoy spending time hiking outside with my dogs, or skiing and ice-skating in the snow. I lived in Minnesota for three years before this, which solidified my love of all things winter! Additionally, I enjoy baking, reading, knitting, and gardening. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and working with you this spring! #smittypix

BREAKING: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) has been confirmed in Mirror Lake in the Village of Lake Placid. This certain species of algae, when found in dense blooms, ...can produce toxins that can be harmful to humans and animals. It is important for the public to avoid letting their dogs enter the water if a bloom is present. While it is too early to determine the cause of Mirror Lake's first confirmed HAB, our scientists are in the field and in the lab working to understand this incident. https://www.adkwatershed.org//harmful-algal-bloom-confirme

Elves of the Natural Science department are working tirelessly to make ornaments for the natural science Christmas tree. It will be decorated in time for the annual tree and gazebo lighting on campus. #smittypix
