UPDATE: New Yorkers who are over the age of 65 will now be eligible to get a coronavirus vaccine, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday, after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention altered its guidance on vaccine prioritization to recommend inoculating those groups. The change is effective immediately, state officials said. New York has updated its website to start accepting vaccine appointments from those who are newly eligible. Click here for current locations and register to get your vaccine, if you meet eligibility requirements. https://vaccinefinder.nyc.gov/

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM DFTA ON COVID #VACCINESCAMS: Though we’ve only seen one COVID-19 vaccine scam in SIRS at this point, we know that this this type of ...fraud will move very quickly, very soon, and will take many forms. Scammers rapidly alter their tactics and adapt their schemes to the changing landscape, and we anticipate that they will leverage the pending COVID-19 vaccine to prey on unsuspecting beneficiaries. At this point, it is essential that we alert the public of likely schemes and provide them with information on how they can protect themselves: 1. You likely will not need to pay anything out of pocket to get the vaccine during this public health emergency. 2. You cannot pay to put your name on a list to get the vaccine. 3. You cannot pay to get early access to the vaccine. 4. No one from Medicare or the Health Department with contact you. 5. No one from a vaccine distribution site or health care payer, like a private insurance company, will call you asking for your Social Security number or your credit card or bank account information to sign you up to get the vaccine. 6. Beware of providers offering other products, treatments, or medicines to prevent the virus. Check with your health care provider before paying for or receiving any COVID-19-related treatment. 7. If you get a call, text, email or even someone knocking on your door claiming they can get you early access to the vaccine, STOP. That’s a scam. As you receive specific vaccine fraud case information, please notify the SMP Mailbox ([email protected]) and me ([email protected]) via email ASAP. Additionally, if you have a beneficiary who you believe might be willing to speak about their experience with being approached/contacted about this type of fraud, please email me directly. We are working closely with the OIG and will provide more information as soon as it becomes available. Please reach out to me with any questions related to COVID-19 vaccine fraud

PSS is Caring, Sharing and Giving!

Dear Friend, What could 2021 be like? Hopefully, it should be much better than 2020. Everyone would love that. We would too. It could be a healthier year. It could feel less stressful. It could be a year where we regain those life-affirming connections that make such a big difference. But the harsh reality is that it’s not starting off great for PSS - or for the older adults we serve. We received some tough news that our main sources of funding, coming from city and state bud...gets, will be cut back. Dramatically. We don’t know exactly how bad it will be, but the bottom line is that we need your help NOW. We need your donations large or small more than we’ve ever needed them before. YesPSS will continue to serve older New Yorkers, just like we have for nearly 60 years. We WILL persevere. We WILL help seniors and caregivers alike. Our Centers WILL continue to be places of comfort and community. We WILL not falter. Butto do so, we WILL ALSO need your help. Please. Take a moment before the year runs out. You actually CAN make a difference and whatever you give will be both put to good use and gratefully received. On behalf of the many older New Yorkers we serve, our Board, staff and volunteers thank you! May 2021 be better and more hopeful for all of us. Excerpt from PSS Harlem Center Member Anna Barrows beautiful expression of thanks to Program Assistant Rorima Wilson. As I age, I am continually redefining my new "normal." In your profession, you get to see how the smallest changes can positively impact a person's standard of living. By being attentive to individual planning assessment objectives, you have introduced me to social activities, educational workshops, and holistic nutrition programs. Your leadership qualities co...ntribute to my quality of life by focusing on core activities that increase engagement by improving physical and mental wellness and inspiring purpose and hope.In these challenging and uncertain times, when food insecurity has become prevalent or eating patterns are suffering because of lack of money and other resources, the PSS Harlem Center's services mean the world to me. Ever since the unexpected impact of the pandemic-battered U.S. economy, you have worked closely with New York City and New York State government agencies to ensure that I receive home deliveries of nutritious vegetarian meals and fresh fruits and produce recognized as essential for preventing and managing chronic health conditions. As a person living with medical disorders, a healthy diet is necessary for building my immune system and is one effective strategy for avoiding some illnesses. I am also grateful that you arranged for me to obtain NYS Farmers' Market Nutrition Program Vouchers, special-care products, cleaning supplies, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as one crucial way to stop the spread of COVID-19 and keep me safe. In closing, I would like you to know and understand that I appreciate your presence, respect, vision, and how you encourage and enrich my life! Thank you for your timely support and willingness to strive to be the best you can be, not just for my benefit but also for the Harlem community. All the best in health, healing, and wholeness, Anna L. Barrow Member, PSS Harlem Center at Pelham Fritz See more
