It seems like sunny weather finally found its way back to New York City. We are glad. PMP crew is working remotely on several projects (despite recent lack of activity on Facebook...) and rain was not so helpfull. Big changes comming to Psychoacoustic Studio. Soon it will be furnished with a new custom made console desk and several comfy gadgets. Untill then, we decided to go further with upgrades and we begun thorough renovation of the Control Room. So new wood floors, wall...s and most importantly a new HVAC system is comming up. Due to these circumstances the Psycoacoustic Studio will be shut down for the follwing weeks. Anxiously, we are looking forward to completion of this plan and the reopening day. We want to thank all parcipitiants for help, support and patronage. we will post updates soon. -Psychoacoustic Music Production
Yesterday's late night work : Assembling the supporting frame for the console. (Still have some energy left after hours of mixing...)
We are upgrading the patchbay and getting ready for brand new custom made console desk. It all will be ready by the end of February.

Big Thanks to Lukasz Gunia for informative and really cool tour at Sadowsky Guitars. It was nice to see how actually instruments are made, the technique used, and all cool stuff about instrument parts as body, neck, truss rod, pickups and more... And that bass- I had a blast! - Vin. Check site for more info www.sadowsky.com
Fabulous gear that does nothing. Fellows - now you can enjoy the view for a fraction of what the real studio furnishing would cost. http://www.funklogic.com/palindrometer
so Ariel Hyatt is a really cool person who wrote a nice book called "Music Success in 9 Weeks" (thanks to Michael Whalen for recommendations). As for those determined musicians it could be one way to get their stuff together, while others still hope to get attention of Record Label AR at another dying out stage or a bar. here is an excerpt of that book, if you bother to look. lol http://diymusician.cdbaby.com/MSi9W_Excerpt.pdf
Here @ PMP we get the job done right, but anyone is free to pick their fav spot ;)

The role of a Vocal Coach. is often neglected. Vocal coach is a person who advise singers and help develop melody, harmony, write some vocal arrangements and generally instruct singers on how to improve the singing technique and/or breathing technique. 'In the 2000s, the increasing use of recording software which contains vocal processing algorithms and digital pitch correction devices is replacing some of the roles of the vocal coach. In the 1970s, if a producer wanted to record a single with a sports star with few vocal skills, the celebrity would need weeks of vocal coaching to learn their song and improve their tone and diction. In the 2000s, the vocals are often processed through time and pitch correction software instead in order to make their singing sound closer to the that of a trained vocalist.' (ref. Wiki)

The role of producer..wait a minute..Who is it? Many fresh bands, especially those who come to record their first project don't even realize the importance of such character. Even the best artists out there deserve one. Therefore, here is your lecture: http://www.musicbc.org//recording/the-role-of-the-producer/ and ... http://productionadvice.co.uk/what-is-a-producer/ Of course if you need one for your project, don't hesitate to contact PMP :)
At the Mastering Session with Andy VanDette. Andy is the Chief Engineer at the Engine Room Audio, NY, NY. He worked with many significant artists such as Rush, David Bowie, Whitney Huston, Deep Purple, Beastie Boys, Porcupine Tree and many others. This time Andy worked on one of the projects that was recorded and mixed here at the PMP Studio and Sonic Arts Center. It was fun and the results- astonishing! Here is a definition of Mastering from Andy's web: "Mastering is the fi...nal stage in the production process and ensures that the music fits together seamlessly and that it is presented with the best possible sound. It involves editing and compiling the required mixes and tracks in production order, cleaning the audio to remove any unwanted blemishes or corruptions, polishing the mixed sound with equalisation, compression and other outboard processing and then producing the final master." In spite of recent disputes over Spotify and other streaming services that drastically decrease the value of music, we can start to ask ourselves a question: what's going to happen with music and musicians within the next decade if that order persists? Yeah, we see increased popularity of vinyl records and hike in sales as the statistics show, but it's far from what was once considered a success. Moreover, the downloaded music (legally!) decreases. So, in current stage what c...hoices are left for new and established musicians who struggle to make a living? We all should realize that the Music Industry is in bad shape, and it's necessary to find a way to bring the value to what musicians create, as well to what fans and music enthusiasts are receiving. Here is a nice interview with Steve Albini about Music Industry. http://youtu.be/tiitifPJkow See more
That was the temp. @ the PMP studio today... Sort of...evil
"The man of many voices" -Chupacabra chorus overdub session :)
Today is the day where I appreciate offline bouncing in newest Pro Tools the most. Over 80 motives of total lenght of 3 hours done in fraction of an hour, including minor editing. Yeah
A sample shot of microphones at Psychoacoustic Studio: Audio Technica AT4047, AT4050, Studio Project B1, Shure SM81, Audix ADX51, Rode NTK + power supply, Beyer Dynamics Opus88, Audix D6, Sennheiser e904, 421, 441, Shure 57, Bang&Olufsen BM3, Cascade FATHEAD II, Shure SM58, beta58, Audix OM7 and Cloudlifter CL1. Yeah!!!
Which microphone, what sweet spot was it!? nah :) just killing some time after hours..testing testing, testing and comparing. That's the way to get around to the artist's sound the way it should be! And then years later, it's embedded in your DNA to know what setup, etc to go for. and it's fun now
Our shootout of Snare Drums available immediately in the studio. Ludwig Supraphonic coming up soon.
New heads on one of our recording drum set. Through careful analysis/research and tests we concluded this set will pronounce best on some heavier sounding musical genres, such as metal or rock, although it could be applied everywhere. On toms: Evans G2 batters, G1 resonants; and kick drum: EMAD2 with ReMAD. What a blast!
Tonight a short glance at Excello Recording Studio in Williamsburg, NY where my bud had a drum recording session. If you are looking for that great analog sound thats the place to go! It's filled with analog gear, great vintage instruments and positive atmosphere. I enjoyed the stay and had a pleasure to meet with Hugh Pool - Musician, songwriter, sound engineer, producer and a really cool person to get along with. Check his bio and the studio links bellow: www.hughpool.com http://www.excellorecording.com
