Spring is here! And so is a zine that took all winter to make. It’s an ode to libraries and an apologia for their enduring value. Over the last year, of course, many libraries have been closed or restricted to visitors in various ways, but they still serve needs for research, gathering, serendipitous wandering, civic participation, olfactory experience, and much more (Rule #3: Libraries are Adaptable to Changing Times). Then again, not all libraries are huge buildings with... scheduled hours (Rule #10: Libraries are Everywhere). Libraries Matter is written by friend of PS Timothy Young (Curator, Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Yale University) aka @blaisetellme and is a companion to his 2015 zine "10 Reasons Books Matter. Like its predecessor, it is designed by Elana Schlenker aka @elanaschlenker for Risograph on archival quality paper. Each copy, when folded and glued, mimics the form of a miniature book and fits inside a custom-stamped library card pocket! You can order a copy pre-finished or as an unfinished DIY sheet that takes about five minutes to make yourself (instructions included). This new zine is also available here paired with "10 Reasons Books Matter." A Spanish-language version of the "Books Matter" zine is available through Maquina de Aplausos aka @maquinadeaplausos This makes a great gift so buy a few! Jump from here straight to the web shop or find the link in our bio! #librariesmatter #booksmatter #zine #risograph

It’s been quite a while since I made a copy of #eclogues but it’s still really nice. Japanese stab binding conceived by Christin Ripley and her marbled paper for the cover as well.

In 2016, PS published Carl Skoggard's translation of the Weimar novel "Georg" by Siegfried Kracauer, and next year NYRB Classics will publish Carl's translation of Kracauer's WWI story "Ginster." Both books are grimly funny, cinematic social novels by an author best known to readers for his foundational work on film ("From Hitler to Caligari"), modernity, and popular culture ("The Mass Ornament"). Kracauer only wrote two novels, both brought into English for the first time in Carl's brilliant translations. So now is a good time to share his as-yet unpublished essay on the pair, "Kracauer's Novels: An Introdution." It's not available in print yet, but you can read it online at Issuu appended to the beginning of "Georg": https://issuu.com/home/published/georg_with_essay

One thing poetry has going for it is the refusal to be only what it appears at first. Presenting (the first minute of) another poem by Minneapolis-based Brad Liening, read by him from his 2020 collection Deep State Come Shining. If you follow the link here you can get a copy made just for you for $12 + shipping, and find out what surprising gifts these poems offer.
