Purpose Farm 13.07.2021

We are only about $95,000 away from being able to rebuild our main barn! This is such a crucial necessity to provide safe, comfortable shelter for our beloved animals before the weather turns cold. The costs of building materials have skyrocketed over the past year, but we have faith that we will reach our goal of $425,000...every time we start to feel discouraged, our amazing community comes through for us again! Every donation is so appreciated, and no donation is too small--they all add up to allow us to do amazing things!

In March, Baldwinsville Boy Scout Packs 234 & 289, & Troops 80, 80G, 107 & 114 all worked hard to collect over 50,000 bottles & cans for Purpose Farm, & on Tuesday, they enjoyed a picnic together to celebrate all their good work--we love this photo of all these awesome Scouts & Troop leaders!! It's amazing what kids can do when they work together--the sky is the limit! Thank you all for Rising Up for Purpose Farm--it is so heartwarming to see youth helping other youth!

Sophie: July 22, 2016 - December 4, 2020 We are deeply saddened to let everyone know that last night we took Sophie back up to Cornell, not to save her but with the hopes that she may be able to save another sugar glider. It was an extremely hard decision but the vet community is very limited in their knowledge about these beautiful complex creatures. Sophie passed away last night in the arms of the youngest Seabrook, Asher, the one who rescued her. Sophie had been returned... and no one else wanted her because she was too crabby. We are still in disbelief as she was only 4 years old and not on our radar at all for possible passing for years to come. Sophie was the second animal to pass this week as Pierogi, the sweet bearded dragon we took lost his fight early Tuesday evening. He tried so hard and gave it his all! This week has been a very trying, heartbreaking week that has not ended as we planned. Sophie was sassy and knew what she wanted. She loved to eat and who can blame her. Chicken and grapes were her favorites which she had every night. God created Sophie with a definite purpose in mind and she lived it in life and death. Asher found Sophie when Gabby the first sugar glider needed a companion. To bond sugar gliders can take time and sometimes one rejects the other. So knowing that Sophie was crabby and had already been rejected, we brought Gabby along to meet her with not high hopes. To our surprise they bonded literally immediately, even giving each other kisses. The breeder was very surprised and could not believe what she was seeing. They loved each other and cuddled right up together in their pouch everyday. Sophie's purpose in life was saving Gabby from a life of never having a bonded mate. Gabby was shuffled through different owners as a single glider till she found her way to Purpose Farm. Sophie was with Gabby for the last three years of Gabby's life when she passed at a pretty accurate estimated age of 10 just last Sept. 2019. In death, Sophie's purpose is to give her body to Cornell with the hopes that by conducting a necropsy, the vet community will be able to learn more about these incredible, whimsical creatures that God created. With that knowledge diseases, injuries, insufficient care, etc. can be prevented and others may be saved. This has been a very tough year at Purpose Farm as many animals passed and several were very sick. Some are still undergoing treatment waiting on diagnosis and some are still in recovery. Sophie is a great example of no matter how small, every living being was created on purpose with a purpose. We chose this video of Sophie as it best conveys a typical day in Sophie’s life. You will see Gabby was right under her as usual. This was taken just two weeks before Gabby passed last September.

Today was day 3 in a row from just this week of bringing an animal to Cornell Hospital for an emergency. Esther Anne was admitted today. From the initial blood work and exam, she has high levels of protein which indicate chronic inflammation and infection. There's still more to come back from the blood work and she will receive x-rays for two of her legs that are the worst in the morning. Her knee joints are clicking and she is quivering in pain. She received fluids via IV an...d pain medicine tonight as well. She will be at $1000 as of tomorrows care and that does not include any more tests that may be needed or medications or treatment. This has not been a favorable year for Purpose Farm's animal mentors. Sophie the sugar glider returned to Cornell in the wee hours Tuesday, and returned yesterday for the whole day. Sophie has an infection that effects the GI system. That made her not want to eat, and that made her sugar levels drop and become very cold as well. We should know more in about a week to 10 days to see if she responds to the medicine and new diet. She was so ill she could not even hold herself up. She came home from Cornell able to climb and drink again. Tonight we will be able to see more when she wakes up after 11:30pm. Please consider donating to help Esther Anne recover and come home. Any amount will help. You can donate at the link below or you can mail a check to Purpose Farm 1454 West Genesee Rd. Baldwinsville NY 13027. You can also donate via Venmo @purposefarm. Esther Anne and all the animal mentors thank you for caring for them. I know many of you just met Esther Anne when you came to pick up your wreaths this past Sunday and many of you will remember her from meeting her during Goat Yoga.
