This week the More to Come crewCalvin Reid, Heidi The Beat MacDonald and Kate Fitzsimonsreport on two virtual conventions: the SchomCom Black Comic Book Festival and the Angoulême Rights Conference; plus Dark Horse’s acquisition of YouNeek Studios; the launch of Ku Worldwide, and Endpaper, and the annual ALA Awards and YALSA 2021 graphic novel list.
A group of veteran pop culture professionals have teamed up to launch Endpaper Entertainment, a new content development company focused on producing original stories in a variety of media, formats and genres.
Digital comics delivered via mobile devices are starting to take significant creative and commercial steps forward. Last year Webtoon, owned by Korean tech giant Line, posted dramatic user and revenue growth, driven by large investments in attracting new customers. That was not a fluke: Tapas, a smaller U.S.-based mobile comics startup, has also announced impressive recent growth, along with plans to partner with traditional print publishers like Scholastic.
Tim Fielder’s new graphic novel 'Infinitum: An Afrofuturist Tale' is ambitious in the extreme. It is an epic adventure and a meta-fictional tale of survival that celebrates the presence of the Black man and Black woman in genre storytelling from the beginning of time until the end of the universe.
The Schomburg Center's annual Black Comic Book Festival went virtual this year and became, the SchomCom Black Comic Book Festival, with four days of online panels and discussions with an extraordinary range--from black superheroes to WOC and LGBTQ artists and more--of black comic book creators and publishers. All the panels have been recorded and archived so you didn't miss a thing. Go and Check out SchomCom The Black Comic Book Festival. #schomcom2021 https://www.schomcom.org/2021-schedule
