Installed this 4'x20' wall sign last week in Wellsville. We were pleased to see the service door was directly behind the sign. The fascia on the building is approximately 8' tall. We thought it would be easy access behind the wall but we found out otherwise. The building had only 2x4 metal studs on the floor to walk on and a large metal beam directly behind the sign area leaving us little to no access to reach our mounting fasteners. The 8 foot tall fascia turned out to have only a 4 feet area in which to crawl into. This turned out to be an install nightmare as the designer(s) of the building didn't seem to care how anyone was supposed to install the signs. Extremely poor access and I hope we don't install anything here in the future.

It is because the LED lighting system is slowly replacing neon, that we sometimes find difficulties finding parts. This photo shows someone had replaced a PK transformer with a solid-state transformer. You cannot find PK transformers anymore so we are in a constant search for finding a transformer that will fit properly. This solid-state transformer fits but, the neon also had to be replaced to compensate for the differences. The neon, in this case, was poorly executed as the neon electrodes are way too close to the grounded surfaces.

Presently we are fabricating some smaller illuminated channel letters. These will be illuminated using LEDs. What is challenging about these letters is that they are trimmed capped face-up. This allows for a cleaner letter face. Trim capping face-down is okay for large letters but, typically using that technique for smaller letters degrades the integrity of the font. Trim capping face up allows us to maintain a much cleaner letter, however; this technique takes twice as many labor hours. It's worth it at the end!

It appears we need permits for everything these days. We're doing a simple face-change in Fort Worth TX. for a customer. The sign is already there and it will read the same thing as it does now however, the local municipality wants me to secure a sign permit to replace a face which will only take 10 minutes to do. Down near Philly it's the same thing. We just put up this face a couple of months ago but the customer wants to make some minor changes. We have to again go through the local government to secure a permit. Sometimes it's all about the money.
