Tales of Queens Pride 04 pays tribute to the late great cartoonist, Howard Cruse! A key figure in the underground comics scene of the 1970s and 80s, Howie is well remembered also as a pioneering artist in LGBTQ comics, creating the gay and lesbian comic strip Wendel which was published in The Advocate during the 1980s. In 1995, his award winning graphic novel Stuck Rubber Baby was published. A stunning piece of work set in the South in the 1960s, Howie's dramatic story weaves... through issues of race, gender and sexual orientation. While living in Jackson Heights, Queens with his partner / husband of 37 years, Ed Sedarbaum (founder of Queens Gay and Lesbians United and SAGE Queens, among other things!), Howie volunteered his skills for the cause.
