We know how to respond to severe economic crises. New York led the way under FDR's leadership, and we can do it again today with an updated Works Progress Administration. I am glad to be working with Assemblymember Patricia A. Fahy, and our neighbors to the east in Massachusetts, Senator Jamie Eldridge and Dan Sena, State Representative 37th Middlesex, to build a regional approach that will get our constituents back to work. We need a #NewWPANow. Read our new op-ed at Data for Progress: https://www.dataforprogress.org//a-great-depression-prescr

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, which means a woman in America is diagnosed every 2 minutes, on average. Make sure you are getting screened early and that you are performing regular self-exams. The earlier it is detected, the higher your chance for a successful treatment and recovery.

Today I wear purple in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. You are not alone. There has been a staggering increase in domestic violence cases during the pandemic. Vera House, Inc. has a local 24-hour support line: 315-468-3260. Or you can call the state hotline at 1-800-942-6906. #PurpleThursday #DVAM2020

This weekend I had the pleasure of joining local leaders and activists in the Women's March in Syracuse, and got to meet the most adorable Pikachu! There is so much at stake with the potential confirmation of a new Supreme Court Justice who does not value the equal rights of all people. We must continue to stand up for women's rights, marriage equality, protection from discrimination for our LGBTQ neighbors, and access to healthcare for all. Please make sure you vote and demand a better America for everyone.

What an honor to receive this recognition from Environmental Advocates Action! Environmental protection and sustainability have been my top focus since long before I ran for office, and it is wonderful to be in a position now to help move some of EA’s long-time priorities across the finish line.

My new op-ed at the Post-Standard: "Families and residents have waited long enough for protocols that balance safety concerns with the right to visit their loved one in their own home. We have to stem the humanitarian crisis that continues to grip our nursing homes, causing emotional trauma for families and a tragic decline in quality of life for loved ones. Allowing well-regulated exemptions for designated visitors would be a reasonable, pragmatic and compassionate step toward re-establishing those human lifelines that are so crucial to the wellbeing of nursing home residents." https://www.syracuse.com//allow-designated-visitors-into-n

The Arts are facing serious challenges in a COVID world. I applaud the foundations that are stepping up to help raise money for CNY Arts and support artists and organizations across Upstate.
