Landscaping, planting and gardening - as well as other improvements inside and outside - continually happen year-round at Rail Line. We have some new landscaping at our parking lot entrance and next spring we hope to have some new fencing in the parking lot along the railroad, the parking lot paved and striped, plus a full rooftop garden and additional landscape enhancements. We are continuing to hold events with limited capacity while practicing social distancing, extra cleaning and safety measures. Plus our large outdoor spaces can be tented and we have heaters so there's plenty of room to distance and celebrate safely! Please contact us to inquire about booking an event this year or in 2021 - 315.396.0473, www.raillinesyr.com
End of the Line for the New York Central Station 58 years ago: On August 29, 1962, the New York Central Passenger and Freight Station on Erie Boulevard closed b...ecause passenger traffic was declining, and the large station was too expensive to operate. A new station opened on Manlius Center Road in East Syracuse. The abandoned railroad station became a car dealership. Later, it was converted into the Greyhound Bus Station. Originally opened in 1936, the station as built for the new elevated New York Central Railroad tracks. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 11, 2009 as an outstanding representative of the Art Deco style. The passenger station footprint is 163’ x 100’, unchanged since its completion. The four-story central block has tower set-backs and is faced with Indiana limestone. Indiana limestone is used as copying and trim on all facades. The freight station complex is comprised of a car facility / coal bunker building, a mail and freight service building with a garage addition constructed between 1962 and 1975, an open canopy connected to a canopy of garages that was enclosed around the same time, and a Railway Express building. A 150-foot coal stack faced with glazed yellow bricks stands at the east side of the property. The buildings are connected to one another via a covered platform that extends approximately 690 feet along the southern façade adjacent to I-690. Two tunnels that originally ran under the tracks and connected the freight station complex to the passenger station. During the early 1960s, a steel and glass structure was added to the southern façade, as well as a metal awning. #cnyhistory #OHAStories Photo Captions: Aerial view of NYCRR buildings and elevated tracks (where I-690 runs today); NYCRR station c1940s; Mural on the front of the NYCRR station; Last train into the NYCRR station, Aug. 29, 1962; NYCRR station as a car dealership; interior of NYCRR station as the Greyhound Bus Terminal.
Fresh from our rooftop garden! Berkeley Tie-dye tomatoes, heirloom basil, lemon cucumbers, okra, calendula, & globe amaranth.
Glad I remembered to bring a vase from home to put just a few of the lovely flowers from our rooftop garden & planter in the ladies' room for today's small wedding party. Hope the bride and her friends like them! Congratulations Nate & Anqeshia!!
The Salt City Market in Downtown Syracuse is the future home of our second location! Currently in construction, the Salt City Market will be a food hall with ...vendors selling delicious foods from around the world. We’re so excited to be a part of this project - but we need your help to make it happen! Our Member Loan Campaign is raising money to fund the new store. Check out syracuse.coop/letsgrow to find out more - and don’t forget to follow Salt City Market for updates on construction and their Curbside Test Kitchen! See more
