Refugees Giving Back

Excited to have received my B.S. degrees in Finance and Business Economics at Canisius College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. The past four years above been trans...formative. I’m thankful for the knowledge, the life lessons, the friendships and the memories. Thanks to everyone that’s played a part. Everything I have done over the past four years would not have been possible with the support of my family and friends. I look forward to the next chapter of my life. I will be starting my career this summer as an Investment Banker with UBS in New York City. I may purse an MBA in 2-5 years time. With everything that has unfolded over the last few months, we have unfortunately decided to postpone our fundraiser dinner. The dinner was set to take place on May 28 but will now be postponed until further notice. The goal of the fundraiser was to support our students attending Bishop Kearney high school. We hope everyone is safe and healthy during these tiring times

Deu Awuok, One of our CoFounder and current president recently finished an internship program with Anthem Inc. in New York City this past summer! Deu participated in a rotational program across Underwriting, Sales, Provider Solutions, Marketing, and Operations. His highlight of internship program was getting to talk to the plant CEO for two hours as well as being able to travel to Washington DC & Atlanta, Georgia. Deu is interested in pursing a career in Investment Banking or Consulting.

Congratulations to Freddy, Nadine, & Awal who all recently graduated!! Freddy graduated from Bishop Kearney High School and be attending Alfred University in the fall, he is currently undecided on his major. Nadine also graduated from Bishop Kearney and will be attending Buffalo State this fall where she will be studying international Relations. She hopes to one day work for the United Nations. Awal got her Associates degree from GCC. She will be returning to school this fall to work towards her Bachelors, she is pursuing nursing. Huge thank you to everyone’s whose had some form of impact on these young adults lives in getting them to where they are. None of this would be possible without your support! A very promising and Bright future ahead!

Hello All, I hope you are all doing well. Many of you may know me from Mary’s I'vePlace, but let me introduce myself again. My name is Ngo Hna and I was one of Mary’s Place’s students. I am very proud to say that I am now in my last semester studying for my MPA. More importantely, I can’t wait to give back to my people and my community, especially those who arrived here as refugees like me. I am very grateful to Rochester Refugee Resettlement Services for giving me the oppor...tunity to help create an education program--Advancing Refugee Student Educational Opportunities (ARSEO). I know that you are studying in college and I imagine that you already are giving back. But I would like to invite you to join me this coming Summer as a peer mentor to work with young refugees now in high school.
