President Obama Announces Executive Action on Immigration!! President Obama took a crucial step in reforming the US immigration system today by announcing Executive Action on Immigration. Under the new policies announced, parents of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (of any age) who have... been continuously present since 01/01/2010, and who pass background checks and pay taxes, will be eligible to apply for temporary relief for a 3year period. Furthermore, DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) will be expanded by eliminating the age cap, and changing the date that continuous presence must have started from 06/16/2007 to 01/01/2010. In addition, the proposed changes are anticipated to include critical business immigration improvements, such as (1) new pathways for foreign entrepreneurs, researchers, inventors and founders; (2) allowing temporary benefits to individuals facing long immigrant visa backlogs in the second (EB2) and third (EB3) employmentbased categories by filing for adjustment of status; (3) employment authorization for H4 spouses; (4) guidance on L1B specialized knowledge worker category; (5) expansion of OPT (Optional Practical Training); and (6) modernization of the PERM Labor Certification program.
