Currently, we offer free to low-cost holistic healing treatments for community members in need of trauma support and recovery. We are looking for practitioners with at least 5+ years of experience in holistic health and work with underserved communities. Today, we sent the following statement to the Reciprocity Community, and we share it with everyone who follows us here on social media to be clear about where we stand and the work we are setting out to do in the coming months and years: We live in a time that is calling us to be present. Amidst this pandemic, we have witnessed uprisings in response to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others of the Black community. Our work aims to and... will continue to collectively address the problems of our current world and work toward a radically different one. The Reciprocity WellSpace team stands in solidarity with and follows the lead of organizers across the country and world against white supremacy, anti-Black racism and police brutality. We fully support the Movement for Black Lives’ demands to #DefundThePolice and #DefendBlackLife. The health crisis we are currently facing has highlighted the divide. Whereas only 12% of Americans are black, 22% of all the Covid-19 related deaths in this country have been African Americans. And although we have been told that obesity is a factor, there is only a 7% higher obesity rate in blacks than whites. Every one of the diseases that blacks suffer in higher rates are diseases of stress and trauma. What we are seeing is that the actual disease blacks are suffering from is racism. In 2005, we created the Reciprocity Foundation to provide holistic health support for people of color who needed free healing/trauma services. In our 15 years of service to the New York community, we have recognized that our Black community faces immense trauma as a result of a system that racially polices and criminalizes dissent. We are continuing to work to be a resource for communities in need and movement work as a whole. This is a moment of heightened pressure. And in moments like this, we must continue to support our individual and collective healing. We are raising our voices to recommit to the healing of our communities, particularly Black folks fighting on the frontlines. In this moment, as we are called to pause, assess, and strategize, we are clear that we must continue to contribute to building a radically different world. In the coming months, we will be partnering with Black organizations so that we can support them in sustaining and deepening anti-racist work. We are here to heal with you. At the Reciprocity WellSpace. In our streets. In our homes. We are here with you in this struggle. The beauty of the Reciprocity community has always been its openness, warmth and welcoming love shared with all. We have always believed that wellness is not just about what you eat or the exercise you do; true wellness is held in the relationships we have with each other.
