We welcomed the accepted Gotham fellows last night for a meet and greet in-person, and it felt SO GOOD to see new faces without masks. We’re excited for the year ahead, and there are still a few spots remaining for this upcoming class, so go ahead and apply at faithandwork.com/gotham-fellowship
It's been a wild year, but we did it! Introducing the graduating Gotham class of 2021 (+ staff and TAs).
Probably the most important trait of the church. Will we recover it?
Tomorrow is the day! You have until 11:59pm on Friday, April 30 to get your Gotham application in on time! Learn more and apply at https://faithandwork.com/gotham-fellowship/
Why are we in New York? Why are we doing the work we’re doing? What is God’s calling on our lives? This past year has caused us to question many things about our lives. The new Gotham class starts this September, and in many ways, there’s never been a better time to join Gotham. This 9-month learning community aims to help you discover and embrace your callingin areas of work, but also in all of life. Applications due April 30. Learn more at https://faithandwork.com/gotham-fellowship/
The past year has isolated many, and proven we’re not meant to do life alone. Rebuild community in the new year with Gotham, where peers from diverse backgrounds and vocations come together to further each other’s spiritual growth and pursue the common good. Applications due April 30. Learn more at https://faithandwork.com/gotham-fellowship/
"Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." How are you praying for NYC right now?
There is a genuine vulnerability that often comes with a hospitable spirit, especially when it requires a willingness to be hospitable for the ideas and experiences of those with whom we disagree on serious matters. But we need to take the risks. Richard Mouw, from "Why 'Making Space' Isn't Enough" Read Mouw's full article on engaging those with whom we deeply disagree and check out the other articles in the series "Hope for the Politically Homeless, presented by the Center for Public Justice. http://www.sharedjustice.org//9/why-making-space-isnt-enou
Holiness is not supposed to be cloaked in the chambers of pious hearts but displayed in the public domains of home, school, culture, and politics. Because we continue to wait for the day that Christ sets all things in their proper order, we find the path of sanctification to be a challenge. Yet the Spirit bids us to listen to his voice and surrender to his power. If we heed this call and continue down the path of transformation, our private and public practice will produce... more amazement than exasperation, and even our enemies will see that we act like those who are becoming human. -Vince Bacote, from The Political Disciple

What difference does it make that we are Christians? How might it transform our thinking, character, and even our public life? Today, we’re revisiting N.T. Wright’s 2010 lecture from our Gospel & Culture series in which he discusses his book on this topic, . Head to faithandwork.com/ntwright to watch this wonderful talk in its entirety. We discussed hope & Ezekiel 37 during Faith & Work 101 this week. God shows Ezekiel a hopeless situation (the valley of dry bones) so that Ezekiel might, depending upon God, become an agent of renewal. How might God be speaking to you through the brokenness that troubles you most deeply? How is he leading you to put before people a radically different future? Dr. Christina H. Edmondson Quote from 2018 Call and Response Conference
Could we ask for a more amazing group of speakers? The Hope For New York Fall Benefit will feature a conversation on mercy and justice with Dr. Christina H. Edmondson, Richard A. Villodas Jr., and more. Register at hfny.org/fallbenefit.
Is there any hope for the world we find ourselves in? Drawing on Genesis, Vincent Bacote encourages us to be fully trinitarian and engage the world God has made through the Holy Spirit. Watch his full talk at faithandwork.com/bacote.
"To me, once you get tolerance down -- respecting people who've got views that are painful to you, without which we'll never work together, and ... humility, recognizing the limits of what you can prove, patience just comes from that. To me, the patience flows out of the other two." -- Timothy Keller, from our 2016 event Civility in the Public Square also with Nicholas Kristof, Stephanie Summers, and John Inazu. Haven't watched the talk yet? Head to faithandwork.com/civility and let us know what you think.
"What's your enneagram number?" If you've been around NYC for more than a few months, you've probably been asked this question. The Enneagram has really taken off, and we were excited to have AJ Sherrill meet our G21 Fellows on Saturday to share his expertise on the enneagram & spiritual formation. We had a blast learning about the unique ways God has shaped us and what that means for our spiritual practice. We also enjoyed some outdoor hang-time after the session (roaring fire optional).
"In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." Proverbs 16:9 (NIV). Join us in praying for our country during this election season. Ask God to lead you and establish your steps as you live out your faith in the public square.
Friends, we still have space available in our Faith & Work 101, which begins tonight. You can still register at faithandwork.com/101. Hope to see you there!
Does God really call us to engage in the public square? Drawing from Genesis, Vincent Bacote invites us to be fully trinitarian and engage the world God has made through his Holy Spirit. Visit faithandwork.com/bacote to watch his full talk.
