So, it turns out that our fearless leader should be called the Main Meatball--this guy can't order a pizza w/o 'em and while it turns out his Italian heritage, is um, how shall we say non-existent (Irish)...he's been walking around here muttering "Mangia! Da Meat-a-balls are here! Please buy some so he doesn't eat them all--we're concerned. No seriously. Using beef, pork, and eggs sourc...ed from our local Red Gate farms, these meatballs are expertly hand crafted right here in Central New York. Our proprietary recipe includes Beef, Pork, Eggs, Bread Crumbs, Romano Cheese, Sea Salt, Parsley, and a few other flavorings. This time of year if "osso buco" isn't on your menu you are definitely doing it wrong! A cross cut section of the leg, or shank, braised for hours in a wine and tomato broth with vegetables and aromatics. The bone in shanks create a rich and velvety texture with an intense depth of flavor. We carry beef shanks, but also recommend trying our grass-fed venison shanks for an extra punch of flavor. Nothing beats poached eggs that are fresh from the local farms of Red Gate Grocer. A shallow pan of water, a touch of white vinegar to set the whites, bring to boil, crack eggs and cook for ~3 mins, and voila! Rich and creamy deep yellow yolks, perfect for any breakfast.

Congratulations to Family Farms Northeast on a successful grand opening of their meat market and coffee shop this weekend! They currently sell subscription meat boxes on their website at www.familyfarmsne.com, and just added a brick and mortar store at their new packing facility, located in Waymart, PA. The cafe will now be open weekdays 7am-6pm and on Saturday 8am-2pm. Featuring daily specials and an abundance of local meats, produce, cheese, eggs, flour, kombucha, and much more. Red Gate Grocer is more than another brand. It’s a Farm First program with a mission to small family farm economic sustainability, animal welfare and the real cost of food. To determine that final cost to you, the conversation with each of our farm partners begins with the same questions.... What are your farming practices? What do you need to charge us to be successful and at what volume? The farmers in this program do not need to worry about the fluctuation of the commodity market and neither do you. There is the added bonus that the farmers know what they are getting paid and who they are selling to before the animals hit the pastures. This allows them to focus on quality farming and being stewards of the land. The Red Gate Grocer Meat Program utilizes the whole animal from nose to tail under a committed yearly processing schedule. There are challenges in working through the whole animal, but it allows for culinary exploration. Most of the popular cuts are shipped fresh to our customers within days of processing. However, to preserve the quality and freshness of the other items, we immediately place those in a deep freeze. Once these cuts are thawed for your enjoyment, they are as fresh as they day they were packed. If we are out of your desired cut, challenge your culinary diversity with something new from the freezer.
