Attention Red Hookers! *Tomorrow* in lieu of our traditional Barnacle Parade there will be a socially distant climate rally and march to draw attention to the ongoing issues of environmental injustice we are still contending with. Spread the word!
Red Hookers and Flicks fans, our friendly neighborhood Barnacles are gearing up for this year’s parade and fundraiser. This time out they are raising money for the Bahamas. If you’re interested in donating to the raffle, details below. The parade, as always, will be on 10/29 to mark the anniversary of Sandy. Come march, dance, eat, drink and help us pay it forward to another community in need.

***UPDATE ON LIDGERWOOD*** This just in from Nydia Velazquez's office: "THERE WON’T BE A FRIDAY MEETING BECAUSE OF POSITIVE DEVELOPMENTS... The community meeting is being postponed because of a very positive development. In a nutshell: UPS's chief engineer ordered a new engineering analysis this morning, informed by community desires to preserve a portion of the south façade of the Lidgerwood building. While the analysis is taking place, no additional demolition of that portion of the Coffey Street façade side will take place, though demolition will continue on other parts of the site. UPS is also creating a dedicated email: [email protected] (will be active tomorrow) for community input for ideas that might help with the new engineering analysis and design . In fact, UPS has already gotten very helpful ideas and suggestions from 9 people in the community and they want an organized way of collecting additional input, hence the specific email address. They also want to be sure to get people’s phone numbers for quick communication and idea exchanges as they work through doing the new engineering analysis and developing the site plan. As soon as UPS has something ready to share we will schedule a community meeting with them. This seems fair as the meeting and new email account, set up specifically to collect input, will help to frame the new engineering analysis." This is good news--for now. We will post updates on the fate of Lidgerwood here and at redhookflicks.com in between our usual summer programming news.
We know you all are eagerly awaiting news of this summer's schedule, and we can't wait to share it with you. But first, an important public service announcement that effects not just the series, but Valentino Park as a whole.
SOS - Save Our Summer! Rising costs have once again put the Red Hook Flicks free outdoor film series in jeopardy... can you help? For twelve summers, Red Hook Flicks has been a chance for the entire Red Hook community to spend time together enjoying the beauty and creativity that make our neighborhood special. That's 96 blockbusters, family favorites, and cult classics on the big screen over the years, and 96 chances to grab a prix fixe picnic from a Red Hook restaurant while... you waited and watched the sun set. You already know if you've ever been - it's magic, what goes on those Tuesday nights. Our committee is made up entirely of volunteer Red Hook residents, and our costs are covered entirely by donations from local businesses. This series is and always has been by the community, for the community, 100% free for all to attend and enjoy. This year, though, we're struggling, and we're worried we might not make it. So we're asking you, the community, to help keep us going. Our costs have spiked for the third time in nearly as many years. Our return sponsors have generously increased their donations but we are still falling short in our pre-season fundraising. So for the first time ever, this year we’re offering individuals the opportunity to be sponsors. Sponsorship is a $475 tax deductible donation. Your name will appear on our promotional materials and social media blasts, showing love to you and all our local supporters. So whether you own a business and we've not yet been in touch, or you're an individual with an album / podcast / book to promote, or a Red Hooker who wants to keep the magic alive ... we need you! It takes 3 sponsors to cover the cost of each night's licensing and equipment! At this time we are seeking 8 new sponsors. If you can't support financially but have some time or talent to give, we definitely need additional volunteer committee members, too! Spread the word! Interested? DM us to field questions or get involved. There's not many things like this left in NYC. Then again, there's nowhere in the world like Red Hook
Our friends over at the Barnacle Parade say there are still raffle tickets to be had for their hurricane relief fundraiser. The prizes are pretty amazing (lift tickets, hand made chef's knives, backstage tickets to see David Cross). Check it out below! Drawing this Sunday at Rocky Sullivan's.

Tommorrow night--rain (@#$%&@!) or shine--COCO!
Tuesday 8/21 Señoras y señores join us for Coco! This family movie was a hit in theaters, grossing over $800 million worldwide. Its sensitive portrayal of Mexican culture and rich language earned Coco great accolades by critics and moviegoers alike. Set against the backdrop of a small town in Mexico during the Day of the Dead celebrations, we follow young Miguel struggling to make sense of his family’s generations-old ban on music. His own talent and passion for old rancheras... sung by his idol, the late Hector De La Cruz, incite a yearning to break with his family’s tradition. In the process he pays tribute to the rich musical heritage of his country and the mythology behind the Day of the Dead when he crosses over to the Land of the Dead. Stunning visuals and catchy songs add to this magical world. Coco is brought to you by our local sponsors Pioneer Works, Ice House, Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies and Erie Basin. Ice House will be serving up some tasty grub of pulled pork sandwiches ($6), mac and cheese ($5), and flavored seltzer ($2). Don’t forget to save room for Steve’s singular tarts, swingles- or what heck, just get a whole pie! Check back here for weather updates or on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. See you Tuesday.

If you're not having an old friend for dinner, perhaps you'd like to know what we're having at tonight's screening? If it rains you'll be able to knock that down with a nice chianti at Rocky Sullivan's, if it shines then key lime pies from Steve's all around.
SILENCE OF THE LAMBS tonight at 8:30, rain or shine! Check back here (or at our website: redhookflicks.com) for details on whether we'll be moving to Rocky Sullivan's or staying at the pier. We'll make the call by 6.

Tuesday 8/7 Hairspray directed by John Waters! Here it is. The original cult classic Hairspray directed by the one and only king of camp John Waters. It’s the early 1960s all over again via 1988. Ricki Lake made her acting debut playing spunky Tracy Turnblad, who sets out to be a dancer on the local tv show, The Corny Collins Show competing against reining queen Amber for the title of Miss Auto Show 1963. From the bouffant to the beehive to dance moves like the bird and lot...s of hairspray watch, Tracy help battle segregation and racial injustice.
