Visiting Rhino Trunks in Rochester, NY, Red Trunk Project’s trunk designer and manufacturer, as well as shipping agent. Going through the Oaxaca Red Trunks that came back last summer. The room smells just like a market in Oaxaca City; cinnamon, copal, leather, Mexican chocolate, straw, and other spices. The virtual, digital Redd Trunk is being used in schools this year, for at-home learning. Check out this video on school life in Oaxaca, included in both versions of the Oaxaca trunk. A few hours ago someone in the Haddonfield School District in New Jersey, just outside Philly, sent me this article from last month. Growing and expanding. Red Trunk is hoping to be working in 5 states for the 2020-21 school year. https://thesunpapers.com//haddon-elementary-school-unlock/
Donate today to Red Trunk Project, Inc , a 501(c)(3) based in Upper Nyack. Our mission to teach children around the world about other cultures. Our Red Trunks give kids a deep dive into other worlds, full of different foods, clothing, language, music, beliefs, and customs. So when students step out of the 2-week immersion, they will have the tools to decode any culture they come across throughout their lives. In essence, Red Trunk is striving to get rid of some the hatred a...nd bigotry, too common in the world we live in. We currently have a dozen Oaxaca Red Trunks in 14 school districts around NY, plus schools in NJ and CA. A month ago we were in Africa, beginning the process of making our next trunk: the Kenya Red Trunk. We need your help to return in March and finish the trunk, as well as begin the process of bringing Red Trunks to schools in Nairobi and Mombasa, in partnership with the National Museums of Kenya and the Ministry of Education. THANK YOU. Kevin Thomsen, Founder & President, Red Trunk Project, Inc, redtrunkproject.org Photo credit Denisse Myrick.
While we were in Voi, Kenya, last week, one of the teachers at Imani Primary, James, gifted me a Christmas tree. We planted it together. This kid, also named James, is responsible for watering the tree. Today I received the first photos of my tree. Good job, James!
Day One of Red Trunk's first trip to Kenya.
