My official full statement from last nights City Council Meeting on Police Reform (3/31/21). The City Council has agreed to adopt all the recommendations we are legally able to adopt, and have specifically highlighted two recommendations that require consideration regarding how they can be effectively implemented. Some very vocal members of our community are upset with the Council that we are actually working to figure out how to implement these recommendations instead of j...ust saying make it so. Several are also taking my words out of context and /or berating me for phrasing my remarks using my voice instead of theirs. I did not make any threats, on the contrary I quite clearly am calling for constructive dialogue in lieu of divisive action that diverts attention and resources from the task ahead of us. My words were meant in earnest, but I personally will not meet with those who have threatened me, our city, or our local economy. Those people should be rooted out of their movement as they do not negotiate in good faith and their actions are counter productive.
