Our worth is linked to how we value ourselves. It’s not based on what others think of us, or the things we have (or haven’t) accomplished. It comes from within - not from external factors. How we measure our worth affects the kind of life we live. When we let other people and things determine our worth it sets us up for a rollercoaster of emotions. It’s important that we see our worth as separate than our diabetes numbers. You still have value if you’re A1C isn’t where you want it to be this month. #diabetes #hba1c #a1c #selfworth #t1d #t2d #type1diabetes #type2diabetes #diabetesmentalhealth

Diabetes distress is a common and expected part of living with diabetes, affecting not only people with diabetes, but also family members (especially parents and partners). Diabetes distress is part of the emotional side of living with diabetes, not a complication of the condition. Distress can present in the following areas: Powerlessness Negative social perceptions Physician distress ... Friend/family distress Hypoglycemia distress Management distress Eating distress If you’re affected by diabetes, the question usually isn’t whether or not you’ll experience diabetes distress, but instead when you’re at increased risk of experiencing it. Times when diabetes distress is common include (but are not limited to): After diagnosis when learning how to self-manage diabetes At the emergence of a complication Adding/changing medications Changing healthcare plans Changing healthcare providers Keep an eye on your patterns and notice times when you experience any changes in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors as related to your diabetes management. #diabetes #diabetesmanagement #diabetesdistress #t1d #t2d #type1diabetes #type2diabetes #typeonediabetes #typetwodiabetes #diabetesawareness #diabetestherapy #diabetesselfcare #chronicillness #diabetesawarenessmonth

Caregiver burnout often goes ignored or unnoticed by those who experience it. It almost always stems from a good place. Many caregivers want the best for their loved ones, pushing through even when they need rest. This almost always leads to more burnout and the caregiver’s mental health becoming jeopardized. Common signs of burnout: exhaustion irritability ... social isolation fatigue feeling down or depressed feeling anxious Many who experience burnout feel guilty, as they see it as a sign of failure. If not managed, it can lead to feelings of anger and resentment. It’s important to remember that burnout is normal, and there are ways to manage it. Self care and seeking help from supports are two ways to begin the management process. #diabetesawarenessmonth #diabetes #diabetesawareness #caregiverburnout #diabetesburnout
