Rescue Pit 12.11.2020

Janine, our Director of Fundraising & Festival Coordinator, met with a mother/daughter duo who hosted a fundraiser to celebrate their birthdays which are one week apart. They donated to 5 local groups and since they have a rescued pit bull, they wanted to donate to a pit bull non-profit specifically one that focuses its rescue efforts locally! #RescuePit wanted to thank Colleen and Chaundacey for their kindness and generosity!

Congratulations to Clover on her adoption! Clover was heartworm positive so she needed a lot of medical attention and time to heal. Clover's adopter liked her so much that she wanted to bring her into her home before she was even done with her treatments. The adopter continued to foster her and give her her treatments until she was ready to be fully adopted. We're so thrilled for them both! #RescuePit #AdoptDontShop #HappyEnding

We want to take a moment to congratulate our Director of Foster Care Allison for graduating from The Academy for Dog Trainers with honors! We first met Allison 4 years ago when she applied to adopt Pepper, mama of the Peppercorns. We quickly realized her dedication to her dogs not only made her an ideal adopter, but the addition to our team we have dreamed of. She immediately jumped into volunteer work, eager to learn. Now, with her new education in force free training, she... can help even more dogs live their best lives. This is huge for all the dogs that we take into foster care here, and all the dogs in our community lucky enough to become her clients. We didn’t realize at the time that bringing the pregnant girl in need, Pepper (now Ember) into the rescue would gift us with not only 12 perfect puppies, but an incredible teammate who’s dedication to the dogs would change and save many lives. Congratulations, Allison! We’re so lucky to have you with us!

#FosterHighlight on injured Dublin. We asked Isabel, what is your Foster story? Dublin was my first foster through Rescue Pit. He came to us from RAS with a chronically fractured elbow. We had no idea how long it had been broken but it had been long enough that repairing it wasn’t a reasonable option. In true puppy fashion, though, Dublin didn’t care at all that his one leg was virtually useless, he still wanted to play and run with his foster sister and they quickly became... best friends! She even let him snuggle with her on the couch and, don’t tell anyone, she actually liked it! Dublin came to work with me every day and stayed in a crate under my desk while I worked. One of my coworkers instantly fell in love with him and applied to adopt him. He stayed with me for his surgery and recovery period. I was unexpectedly sad the day of his amputation. I knew it would give him a pain-free life and let him be a happy puppy once he was recovered but the finality of the surgery and seeing him with three legs for the first time broke my heart a little bit. Three legs and a cone of shame on a puppy was a challenge so I altered some children’s shirts to fit him and took off one of the sleeves to cover his incision for supervised snuggle time on the couch without his cone. He didn’t look back for one second after his leg was off. It’s so amazing watching a dog go through such a life changing surgery and just bounce out the other side like that was weird but I feel great now, what’s next Foster Mom?! Watching Dublin learn his new life on three legs was so inspiring, he adapted so quickly! The only thing he struggled with was how to hold a chew toy with only one front leg, but we made it work! My other dog loved Dublin so much that by the time he was healed and ready to go, it was so difficult to say goodbye. I was glad he had a home lined up or he probably would have been a foster fail to keep them together! He loves his new sister and his mom, though, and we get to foster more dogs in need through Rescue Pit so it all works out!
