Last call for the chicken salad bar! The girls are making a final field visit before we move them to their winter quarters at the Tin House. This time they get to chow down on weather-beaten chard and collards, as well as the Dutch white clover underseeded in the pathways. There are many reasons to cover crop, and this is yet another... in December, a cold, naked field would be too muddy for such a maneuver, but with our thick buffer of clover, we can still use the tractor to pull the coops with minimal fear of soil compaction.
