Parentification is the process of role reversal whereby a child is obliged to act as parent to their own parent or sibling. They are two different types of pattern (emotional and instrumental) and many times families have no clue that this is the pattern they are engaging in. You can support them by addressing it head on. Tell them what you see. ensuring that they create new boundaries that are healthy for the family is a great way to support them. CBT is a great modality to use when dealing with parentified children and families. #gettingunstuck #parentification #cbt

Mark 2:22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skinsand the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins. #bibletherapy When we are trapped in our own jails of negative self talk we struggle to allow others in to speak the healing that we so desperately need. we choke out any goodness trying to blossom. We hide in our own minds meanwhile our bodies are telling the story. It’s like pouring new wine ...into old wine skins, the Scripture tells us that the old skin will burst. It’s like the old saying goes you do what you’ve always done you will get what you’ve always gotten. Positive self talk takes intentionality and confidence to push past the voices that say you’re not enough. Allow positive words to overcome you like a rushing wave. Break free and love like you’ve never been given reason not to, like you’ve never been hurt. Break the emotional cycle of isolation and be determined to receive love. You deserve it! #love #emdrtherapy #emdrtherapist #gowiththatflow #oldwine #newwine #childhoodtraumaawareness See more

What do you see when you look at this man? What assumptions do you make about his life? What biases do you hold? As a therapist it’s important to check yourself at the door. As humans we hold biases, it’s one way we make sense of the world around us however, when we support others healing through our own lenses it’s a sure fire way to miss things. Regardless of who you are and what walk of life you come from let’s agree to see each other the way that God sees; and He sees you as beautiful, whole and worthy of love and affection. No matter what you’ve done or what’s been done to you. #letsloveeachother #caringforothers #caringforself #nonbias

Anxiety doesn’t always look like this (keep swiping). Sometimes it can be a numb, frozen, forced smile or laugh that hides the vibrations in our body when we become uncomfortable. We see it on Wall Street, in the classroom and any other place humans typically perform. We’ve all felt some level of anxiety whether it’s performance driven, taking a test, dealing with bullies, or dealing with things of the past. Anxiety is but a passing moment of threat. Next time it comes to visit ask questions like what am I afraid of? Is this moment life or death? Is it real what I feel? Because you too can overcome anxiety. #anxietyawareness #anxietyrelief #overcominganxiety
