Youth planned and organized a march that went from George Floyd Square and marched through Southside Minneapolis streets before dispersing. [There was further c...overage of events through the night, see article link at bottom of description] Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) officer charged with murdering George Floyd, was released from jail on a non-cash bond on Wednesday, October 7. A small protest gathered near the downtown Minneapolis jail after news of Chauvin’s release broke, and at least one person was reportedly arrested on disorderly conduct charges. A protest is planned for this evening, which Unicorn Riot will be covering. Chauvin is charged with 2nd and 3rd degree murder, as well as 2nd degree manslaughter, for kneeling on George Floyd’s neck for nearly 10 minutes. Several dozen Proud Boys held an unannounced flash rally and march through center city and old city Philadelphia today. They had a sizable escort from Philly PD... until they dispersed by the waterfront - PPD SWAT could be seen staging across from the Penn's Landing Hilton hotel at around 2:15 PM, as seen here. UR also noticed a few men in Proud Boys colors, some with hockey gear and sticks or canes, hanging ou near the Hilton alongside PPD officers. They were mostly hidden under the pedestrian bridge that crosses I-95 by the Independence Seaport Museum. Proud Boys signaled their desire to align with police today with chants like Back the Blue"; some PPD officers and Proud Boys were sporting face masks with matching political flag motifs.
