Powerful interview on Modern Love. I particularly found the ending important to think about. Pobody is nerfect. We will make mistakes and the growth can and does occur with the right apology. Sometimes it’s through these troubled patches that relationships develop a stronger foundation to weather the next storm. Do you have a working definition of love? It’s a verb. That’s the first thing. It’s an active engagement with all kinds of feelingspositive ones and primitive one...s and loathsome ones. But it’s a very active verb. And it’s often surprising how it can kind of ebb and flow. It’s like the moon. We think it’s disappeared, and suddenly it shows up again. It’s not a permanent state of enthusiasm. I’m thirty-five years in a relationship, I practice. And I have two boysI practice. It’s not just romantic love. I think that definition today of loveyou are my everythingwhere you really see it, this complete exaltation, is in wedding vows. Have you ever noticed? I mean, it’s, I will wipe every tear that streams down your face before you even notice it’s going down. I think a realistic vow is I will fuck up on a regular basis, and, on occasion, I’ll admit it.

Post 23: Erev 2000, while getting ready for Y2K, I remember my Cleveland cousins stocking up on essentials just in case. I never thought that 20+ years later with the advances of apps delivering groceries that this would be a period of food scarcity, health crisis after crisis, and general suffering both of body and soul. So in light of the new year around the corner (sorry the Jewish High Holidays were a blur and I missed my usual annual salutations), wishing everyone a Shanah tovah 2.0 and only health and happiness (also mazel) in the year ahead.

Post 23: Covid Update: important and sensitive update on mikvah attendance and best practices. I’ve been in touch with former students and am happy to be a resource if you have any questions, concerns, or feeling challenged these days.
