The Roosevelt Island Day Nursery 29.06.2021

As a mother of a 5 year old and 2 year old boys, I recognize and value more than ever the importance of high quality, early childhood education. I am so grateful to Roosevelt Island Day Nursery for being able to provide this in a loving and nurturing environment. RIDN is a non-profit early childhood school that has been supporting our community for 45 years. As we kickoff the season of giving, please consider supporting The Roosevelt Island Day Nursery tomorrow on #GivingTues...day with a donation. This year, we are dedicating our fundraising efforts to further supporting our learning environment so that our children can continue to thrive. Thank you for your support and be well! ~RIDN PA

As we kick off this season of giving and thanks, we are grateful to our RIDN families, teachers, community, and neighbors for all the love and support you give to our children. There is so much that has happened since we launched this school year. The common thread is not just "we are in this together," it is that we are all together in the rightness of children having safe guided educational experiences and the freedom to experiment in a playful way. This year, we are dedic...ating our fundraising efforts to further supporting our school so that our in-person shared life can continue to thrive. Please consider making a gift today! Play on! #GivingTuesdayRIDN2020 #GivingTuesday #givingtuesday2020

Although our school building is closed, teachers have been transcending the limitations of technology to meet, play together and connect virtually with their classes, while keeping safe at home. We are optimistic about getting back to our real school in the fall. In the meantime, we would like to share some of the work the children have been doing at home! During our physical time apart, each of our classes studied the transformation of caterpillars to butterflies! Teachers ...received butterfly habitats with caterpillars and focused on introducing and discussing this process in ways that are appropriate and tangible for each of our age groups, from toddlers to five-year olds. Our children studied their development through photos, videos and conversations on Zoom. Take a look at the full sequence of videos in the comments!

What a treat to spend Saturday morning with our school community! Pancakes were shared, friends were made and warm fun was had on a chilly February day. Thank you to the dads for cooking and the Parent Association for organizing!

Helping children feel that this is where they belong is the heart of our school. Engaging in spoken and non-verbal communication, freely exploring materials which provoke thought and sensory stimulation, and learning from the example of peers, strongly promotes growth and change in all areas: cognitive, social-emotional and physical. The creation of a sense of community within each classroom and the school as a whole is important to the children’s emotional security. Childr...en need, and deserve, to be known and understood in order to be receptive to cognitive stimulation. They learn best when they feel connected to each other and to their teachers. They thrive on kind, caring attention and encouragement. Having your support, interest and participation links home and school in a collaborative partnership of care, education and community. We look forward to the next months of working together in the new year. Until we see you again, may the love and joy of family light up your holiday and all the days to come.
