Happy Pride people! This photo is from 2019 when we were getting ready for our first Farm Pride tea dance and Michaela, Jane and kids were hitting the local Pride marches to spread the word. We thought it would be the first annual dance, but obviously life had other things in store for all of us. Hopefully next year we can host a bunch of Pride loving folks on the farm dance floor. Happy Juneteenth! In the words of Karen, this is a day of celebration and education. Let’s celebrate the end of slavery in the U.S., the activism and resilience that African American people and allies embodied to make it happen. Let’s celebrate that Juneteenth is finally a national holiday. And let’s educate: it was two and a half years until the final enslaved people learned about the Emancipation Proclamation - because the truth was being kept from them. It took a general ...led Union army, dressed in red, to show some slave owners that slavery had come to an end. Bear this history in mind as we move through the world today and face backlash against the Justice for Black Farmers Act. This act would help to remediate decades of policy and government practice that pushed Black farmers off their land. Bear this history in mind as state congresses around the country work to create policy that gags freedom of speech about racism and makes it more difficult for Black people to vote. Our work continues, and to be most effective we need to know our history and learn about the people who came before us. Since we started a farmers market in our small town way back in 2015, (then Assemblyman) @jamesskoufis has been a supporter of ours. It was good to have him back for a visit. Bon voyage Steph! (@stephaniejessica) Steph jumped into the farm this season with both feet and helped us get caught up to where we feel like we have a little space in our lives to think about the future (read, next season). She was tenacious and tireless in everything she did on the farm and we are very sad to see her go. Steph and her partner Luke (@winterbornurbangarden) have a herd of animals and a plan for their own farm in the future. We wish them all the best! Watch the leaves change and remember you are changing too. Remember that holiness lives in you, that you a...re enough, that you are never ever alone. When you're feeling any amount of connection/joy/ease, celebrate! This is no small feat, especially now. ... Sing out to hashem (they can hear you). Cry out to your ancestors (they are listening). Feel the ground beneath (it can hold you). Wishing you all joy and celebration for all of life’s beautiful moments, and strength and love for all of its difficult ones.

Sometimes you just need some flowers! In past seasons we’ve grow a constant supply of rainbow hued edible flowers. This year, in light of the dramatic increase in food insecurity and the shutdown of so much restaurant business, we’ve focused more on nutrient dense foods.
