We are slowing down and packing away for the season but we must take this time to talk about Montauk Daisies! They’re just opening up and they are a spectacular fall addition! Japanese anemones

A solid hour of weeding feels SO GOOD...great exercise! Many of my gardens are 'a jungle', some of them feel overwhelming...so many flowering 'weeds' that look pretty, but I KNOW if they go to seed I'm going to be in even bigger trouble next year. So here's what I do...since there just isn't enough time/energy to pull them up by the roots...I simply break off the flower heads. BEFORE they go to seed and spread. That's way better than nothing!... Move slowly...watch out for those yellow jacket ground nests! YIKES, I got stung twice yesterday in spite of my cautiousness. Very itchy today. I mark the nests with these orange flags I have...and simple wait/KNOW that either frost OR raccoons will take care of this 'problem' for me. Y

Japanese painted fern and blue lobelia.

In August we love our blues and yellows. Blue lobelia really compliments the golds of the black eyed Susan’s and ligularia in the garden.
