Rochester Institute of Technology Model Railroad Club 07.07.2021

Welcome to week 5. A lot of sanding was done in Niagara where the back tracks were. More track was ripped out in Niagara including a section of the mainline to straighten the track alignment. The main coming out of Niagara towards Lockport was also partially removed to correct the turn radius to be a consistent 30 inches. Road work was also done in Rochester to level the area where the road will be replaced.

Welcome to week 4! The old road location in Rochester was sanded in preparation for the road to be remade. More of the back tracks in Niagara Yard were ripped up. More work on the cork in Ontario Foods was done. Work was also done on the roadbed for the track going to the Bando. There was also work done on the Jackson Welding Supply building that will go at CP 373. A little work was also done on the subway wall.

Welcome to week 3! We ripped up a lot of track and scenery in Niagara mainly where Occidental Chemical and Niagara Metals were. We also removed some of the old tortoises and plan to reuse them when we remake the bando and Niagara Yard. Some more work on the cork in Ontario Foods was done and some planning was also done at CP 373 around whether to add a new structure or not. In addition we discussed the switches we are going to use for the new yard ladder for Niagara Yard.

Welcome to week 2! Work was done in Irondequoit yard including cutting expansion joints. A piece of Masonite was also cut to be the new base of High Falls. Some club equipment was also repaired. The Morse Lumber area was sanded and painted and the roadbed to the abandoned second right-of-way was painted and ballasted. Work also began on pre-fabricating a 30in radius curve for Lockport.

We are back for the spring semester and have gotten a lot done on our first day back. Trackwork was done in Irondequoit to fix a rail that had popped out of the ties. The base foam next to High Falls was put in place but not glued. The new road in Rochester was removed to be redone after it was damaged when doing the scenery on the adjacent hill. The Ontario Foods area was prepped to have cork laid down as a base. The Morse Lumber area was also cleaned up. The biggest update was the removal of part of the backdrop in Niagara.

Welcome to week 9! today was another productive day. Work was done on the tracks for Ontario Foods in Albion, the hill in Rochester was lengthened and sanded, the wheels on the club locomotives were cleaned, a pillar was designed for Brown Street, the white patches in Rochester were repainted to match the surroundings, the craft paints were organized, and lots of paper was put down in Scudderville, Albion, and Irondequoit.

Welcome to week 8! We are now more than halfway through the semester and a lot of progress has been made. Today we tested all the switches and fixed most of the ones that were not functioning correctly. There was also a large amount of cleaning and organization that happened in the club room. More benchwork was done to bring the ground to the correct height next to High Falls. Work also began on the embankment in Rochester from track level to ground level.

Welcome to week 7! Today was another productive day for smaller tasks. The plexiglass was put back up around the layout, the work bench was cleaned, club couplers started being painted, and more of the items in the club room were organized. In addition to these smaller tasks, the mainline is back in and was adjusted today for optimal running. The subway also had more work done including some paint and the ballast. Much of the club equipment was removed from staging and put back in the club drawers. Some scenery work was also done before Albion.

Welcome to week 6! Today was another very productive day. More roadwork was done in Rochester and work was done before Albion in preparation for scenery. There was also work done at the end of Rochester in preparation to do more roadwork and scenery. More of the drawers and shelves next to the work bench were organized and more benchwork was done on the layout. More work was also done on the subway. Lastly, we pulled some of our donations from under the tower and cataloged it.

Welcome to week 5! Today was a very productive day. The items on the shelves above the work bench were organized and moved in preparation to remove the shelves. More planning was done for the remake of Niagara Yard and more roadwork was done in Lockport and Rochester. The process of ordering track for the layout also began so the Rochester curve can be installed.

Welcome to week 4! This week we had more introduction about what the overall plan for the layout is. Roadwork was started in Rochester using the plans that were made last semester. One of the subway walls was redone and temporarily installed. Lastly, more work was done on upgrading the benchwork to make it more stable.

Welcome to Week 3! Today work was started on cleaning up the crossings in Irondequoit in preparation to redo them. There was also some cleanup done on the work bench and some cars were repaired. Also more introductions were done for new members about the layout.

Welcome to Week 2! Today was a day for disassembly and some road work. The front of the fascia was removed with plans to re-cut it to be the correct height for the road (West Main Street). In addition Niagara had most of the buildings removed to start planning for a remodel. Roadwork was also done in Lockport and Albion. The crossing in Lockport is now mostly complete. So far we are looking at a productive semester!

Rochester Institute of Technology Model Railroad Club 01.08.2020

Welcome to week 7! Today started by the club going to Edgerton Train Show and touring their train layout. During the work session that followed a lot was done. Work began on leveling track in Ontario Foods in preparation for paving the surrounding area. Some members began organizing a followup to the MSD project. More work was done on the curve in Rochester and work continued on the walls of the subway. Work also continued on programming the club power.

Welcome to week 6! A lot of track-work and bench-work has been done including planning a new curve for Rochester, repairing inclines on both mainlines, and planning the route for High Falls. With bench-work, High Falls has been cut in preparation for the trestle, and pedestrian bridge. Additionally more decoders have been installed in club locomotives.

Welcome to week 4. More work has been continued including leveling out the area and planning the intersection near High Falls, fixing topography, redoing scenery in Lockport, organizing scenery materials from Springfield and fixing club locomotives and cars. Lots of progress has been continued this week and will be continued after the train show next weekend.

Welcome to Week 3. More work has begun including correcting clearances for bridges, planning roads and track-work, a parking lot and background building for Lockport, and fixing some slopes on the layout. So far this semester has been very productive.
