Riverdale Country School

For ten days, five Riverdale students and three history teachers explored the High Peaks region of New York's Adirondack State Park in an effort to better understand the past, present, and future of "American's first wilderness." Participants camped for seven days, climbed three mountains over 4,000-feet tall, and explored diverse scholarly perspectives on a landscape that historian Philip G. How cool is this? On the big screen at the @tribecafilmfestival: Taj Swaminathan-Sipp! RCS ‘21. Taj is in a film called Intersection, directed by Bart Freundlich and also starring Julianne Moore, Don Cheadle, and Talia Balsam. The film is part of a longer anthology movie, With/In, that explores life at home during the lockdown and that was shot with iPhones. Freundlich, a former student of Milton Sipp’s at a previous school, recruited Taj for the project. The film was shown at the festival on June 13

At the closing faculty meeting of the year, Head of School Dominic Randolph announced that the Al Davis Teaching Award would be given posthumously to Dr. Pablo Martinez, who died unexpectedly in April. Dr. Martinez joined the Riverdale language faculty in 2019. He taught Spanish and French, coached tennis and fencing, served as an advisor to the Middle School Students of Color affinity group, and was a strong and thoughtful supporter of students and adults in the Riverdale LGBTQ+ community. This portrait was created by students in the Upper School Foundation Studies in Art class.
