We're excited that the month of February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! This month-long national health observance reinforces the importance of oral health in children as well as helping parents with tips to keep their child’s smile on track! Stay tuned to our social media accounts as we take this opportunity to share oral health tips and raise awareness of the importance of pediatric dental care at an early age!
Did you know that your teeth are as unique as your fingerprint? Even identical twins have a different "tooth print".
Calcium is crucial for healthy teeth! In fact, teeth and bones are mostly made of calcium. Both are constantly remodeling through the resorption and deposit of calcium, which means that they rely upon calcium intake to power the process that maintains healthy bones. Yogurt is a great way for kids to get the calcium their teeth and bodies need. Mix in some fruit for some extra flavor.
Did you know that gingivitis is unfortunately common in children? It can cause gum swelling, redness, and bleeding. The good news is that the very early stages of periodontal are treatable and reversible. If you have questions about your child's gums, give us a call!
Dr. Spear, Roasmaria, and Samantha were excited to have gotten the first dosage of their COVID-19 vaccination last week! The safety of our patients and our team is so important to everyone at Riverdale Pediatric Dentistry.
Kids are more likely to be enthusiastic about brushing if you let them choose their own ADA approved toothpaste. We love bubblegum flavor! Comment and tell us your favorite flavor!

Frequent consumption of soft drinks is the leading cause of tooth decay in older kids, teens, and young adults. Water is always the best choice!
One of the goals of brushing 2 times a day is to prevent and remove plaque from your teeth, but plaque is pretty soft! Brushing too hard only serves to wear down your mouth's natural defenses and can actually lead to bigger problems down the road. Toothpaste is abrasive enough, so let it do the hard work!

Picky eaters? Homemade Smoothies are a perfect way to get kids to eat their veggies. Try out new refreshing smoothie recipes with carrots, celery and other fibrous greens that prevent plaque from building up on teeth and keep your gums healthy. You can add a little sweetness by including a few berries. Don't forget to brush!
We are SO THANKFUL for all of our incredible patients! Leave a comment and tell us one thing you're thankful for!
Constant use of a sippy cup after the age of 2 can affect tooth and jaw development. As much as possible, try introducing a regular cup around the age of two. A good way to get kids motivated is to buy a new "special" cup so they are excited to try it out!
Did you know that fibrous vegetables like celery and carrots help scrub teeth and freshen breath as you eat them? And the other health benefits of eating vegetables are a bonus!
My patients are so thoughtful. Max had an appointment today and was kind enough to give me his prize! This is the first time a patient has given me a prize from the prize machine. Thanks, Max!
We were so excited to find out that Athena wrote a story about coming to our office! She did an incredible job capturing so many details of her experience at Riverdale Pediatric Dentistry - all on her own. And she’s only five! Our team, her parents and even her teachers were really impressed. Thank you, Athena! You did a fantastic job. #kidartist #kidwriters #love #pediatricdentistry
Got a tiny sweet tooth? To keep the sugar bugs away, make sure that these occasional treats are finished quickly. Rinsing with cool water afterwards is a great idea as well!
