Press release regarding 62 Hertel avenue project For immediate release Due to impending life and safety issues RiverRock Church and the Buffalo Myanmar (Burmese) Indigenous Christian Fellowship recently hired a demolition contractor to remove two very unstable sections of a tower. After receiving a written assessment and inspection report from a reputable professional engineer who evaluated the project and determined the tower was not safe in it’s current condition. ... RiverRock Church and the Buffalo Myanmar (Burmese) Indigenous Christian Fellowship endeavored to hire a number of restoration contractors to restore the tower as it was and were told that it was not possible and far too dangerous to attempt restoration until the top two sections were removed. We were informed that a partial demolition, removing the two top unstable sections could avoid injury, loss of life and further damage to the rest of the building. On Wednesday (10/7/20) the demolition contractor was asked to stop demolition. RiverRock Church and BMICF applied for an emergency demolition permit to stabilize the current structure and determine the next feasible course of action. Our goal is to preserve and restore the functional parts of the building and the sustain the safe portions of the tower. Our collaborative and collective investment in this once historic building which was used as a sanctuary is to see this building used as a church once again. 62 Hertel is being restored as a church with a passion to serve the local community. It is also our intent that this building and the school building which is part of the campus would be used to serve the community around us. RiverRock Church and BMICF have served this community for over 16 years. RiverRock invited NorthGate to partner with them after the retirement of RiverRock‘s pastor this summer. Procedural errors were missteps of enthusiasm, not manipulative intent. We are community builders making life investments in our neighborhoods. This misstep is our orientation into brick and mortar processes. We have course corrected and applied to the City Of Buffalo for the proper permits and look forward to working with the preservation board as an ally in feasible preservation. We welcome their tutelage and partnership.

It’s official! On August 9, RiverRock and Northgate Christian Community Church united as one church with 2 campuses. The new Senior Pastor is the beloved Jon Hasselbeck. Please pray for the transition process, for unity among more diversity and that we stay focused on Him and His mission. Look for future service updates that will begin November 1 at the Hertel/East St location. God is moving and it is so exciting!
