So a Yankee win and Red Sox, Seattle, Toronto loss on Friday equals a playoff spot. The bullpen has been rock solid and the clutch hitting has been something I’ve never seen before. Keep winning! Toronto stays home and welcomes in the Baltimore Orioles for a massive 3 game set this weekend. Toronto looks to keep their season alive and pretty much have to sweep and need help from Boston/Seattle/Yankee losses. The Yanks head back home to take on the division winning Tampa Bay Rays in officially THE BIGGEST SERIES OF THE YEAR. Taking at least 2/3 solidifies a wild card spot AND home field advantage for the Wild Card game. 1 win against Tampa and combinations of Boston/Seattle/Toronto losses could still get them in. Check out our most recent blog recapping the New York Yankees at the Boston Red Sox game series! The Yankees jump for joy after they pull a 3 games series sweep over their rival, the Red Sox. Game 1: 9/24/21, 7:10 PM (NY wins 8-3) ... Game 2: 9/25/21, 4:10 PM (Yanks win 5-3) Game 3: 9/26/21, 7:10 PM (NY wins 6-3) Words can’t describe how amazing this series was! This weekend could not have went any better for the Yankees. There is still work to be done with 6 games remaining, but NY holds a wild card spot by 2 games and hold the 1st wild card spot by a game. Their destiny is in their own hands as a 4-2 finish should secure them a wild card game and even a 3-3 finish could secure them a spot. Boston is in luck, as they travel to Baltimore to take on the bad Orioles that have had a number on Boston this season. The Yanks head up to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays in the biggest series of the year. They take 2/3 in Toronto and I would say they essentially lock themselves in a wild card spot. Keep winning! Game 3: 9/22/21, 7:10 PM (Yankees win 7-3) The Yankees were desperate to sweep Texas in the worst possible way. It was great seeing relief in pitching and very clutch hits. None of this matters anymore though, as the home stretch begins with the Red Sox. I’d say to secure a wild card spot, we probably have to go 6-3, 5-4 at the worst. The road to October baseball starts Friday night in Boston with ace Gerrit Cole on the mound. Texas takes a short flight to Birdland in Baltimore for a 3 game series with the Orioles. The Yankees head to beantown for a CRUCIAL 3 game set with the Red Sox who currently have a 2 game lead on them for the 1st wild card. The Yanks lead the 2nd wild card by a game over Toronto. Game 3: 9/12/21, 8:05 PM (Mets win 7-6) These last 2 weeks have been a complete disaster and the Yankees are doing themselves no favors with poor fielding and poor pitching. It was nice the last 2 games to finally see the offense put up runs and see some clutch hits. Although, we are at a point in the season where all facets of the game have to be done well. Luckily for the Yanks, their schedule gets really soft over the next 2 weeks, with matchups against the Twins, Orioles, Indians, and Rangers before the final week against their division foes. Better start winning and doing it quickly before it’s too late. The New York Mets continue their home stand with the St. Louis Cardinals for a big 3 game set with NL wild card positioning on the line. The Yankees go back to the Bronx for 1 game makeup rain out against the Minnesota Twins starring Luis Gil on the mound. These are must win games against bad teams. Steer the ship! Toronto takes their 8 game winning streak to Baltimore for a 4 game set with the O’s. Toronto sits .5 games out of the 2nd wild card spot that the Yanks hold currently. Somehow through all of this, the Yanks are still currently in the playoffs. The Yanks head to Queens, to take on the crosstown little brother Mets in a fitting series as the 9/11 anniversary looms on Saturday and both NY teams will face off. Game 3: 9/1/21, 4:10 PM (Yanks win 4-1) The Yankees can’t afford to lose 2/3 games to the Angels, but thankfully they took the final game with Cole pitching. The Tampa Bay Rays lost as well, so they gained a game on Tampa. Yanks have the 3rd easiest remaining schedule while Tampa has the 5th hardest schedule so we should be able to pick up some wins which leads up to a final 3 game set with Tampa in the Bronx to finish up the regular season. This set could be for the division. Sit tight Yankee fans, we're just getting started! The Angels stay home and welcome in the division rival Texas Rangers for a meaningless 4 game set. The Yanks finally head back home after a long road trip that they finished 5-4 in. Yankees can't do anything but move on and try to start another streak. Although losing the final 2 games and settling for a split sucks, the Yankees have pulled through since July 4th, truly remarkable. It’s crazy during the long winning streak, they ended up still losing 2 games on the 1st place Rays who have been beating up the Orioles for the last week. Seems like whenever the Yanks win, the Rays win. Those 2 teams will play what seems like a battle for the division in 3 more games. Their final 3 games of the year are against each other and that could involve major playoff implications. The A’s travel to Detroit to take on the surprising Detroit Tigers. Tigers haven’t been as bad as people expected, they won’t make the playoffs but definitely a team to watch for next year. The Yanks travel to LA, to take on the Los Angeles Angels in an important 3 game set, a series the Yanks have to win as the Tampa Bay Rays or Boston Red Sox start a 4 game set so Yanks wins means they’ll gain ground either way. Yankees have looked unbeatable over the past month and a half showing no signs of slowing down. They have been pouring on runs and the their pitching has been amazing. Very nice to see a team with a lineup full of power to finally be showcasing it, they’ve hit A LOT of homers recently and I expect that to continue. What a stretch it’s been! They currently sit 4 games back from Tampa in the division and 3 games ahead of Boston for the 1st wild card spot. Atlanta stays home for a brutal upcoming series with the league’s leading San Francisco Giants and followed by LA Dodgers, that’s gotta sting playing the Yankees, Giants, and Dodgers in 3 straight series. Yanks have an off day Wednesday before they head to the west coast for a 7 game west coast trip starting in Oakland on Thursday for a 4 game set. Oakland is struggling nightly and have fallen out of the wild card spot and they’ll face New York’s top 4 arms this series. Starting with Tallion, Cole, Cortes, Montgomery. Should be fun.
