Food for thought.

If you are a New York acupuncturist or acupuncture patient, we need your letters to allow real acupuncturists to provide care to Workman's Comp patients under B...ill #A5940C. Currently only a MD (with a mere 200 hours of video courses) can treat while the better-trained (3000-5000) Licensed Acupuncturists cannot. Thank you to all who sent letters over the past 2 weeks. To date, the Governor’s Office has only received 60 letters. Unfortunately, the lobbyist has told us this is too few to have enough impact to advance our Workers Compensation Bill from the Governor’s Office into law. Opposition has presented itself from various entities all stating this bill will increase costs in the Workers Compensation System. The folder is growing with letters of opposition, our community must to add to the support letters. We need more letters from licensed acupuncturists, patients, supporters, faculty and other healthcare professionals right away. Unfortunately, we cannot use a form letter. Every letter needs to be individually written, but making the same main points. Please take the time to complete this task to ensure our bill is signed by the Governor and sets a precedence for future industry advancements. You can use the attached template to make sure the letter is addressed correctly. Once it is written, print 6 copies for mailing. The main points are: -Acupuncture is safe, efficacious and cost effective. -Acupuncture is a way to avoid addictive and expensive pain medications. -Acupuncture helps speed recovery to allow injured workers to return to work, saving employers money. -Acupuncture decreases the need for expensive surgeries and the complications involved. -Acupuncture is already part of the workers compensation system when performed by an MD, this bill allows NYS L.Ac.’s to treat injured workers. -MDs are not as well trained in acupuncture DO NOT CUT AND PASTE THESE POINTS DIRECTLY INTO A LETTER. These are guiding points that help inspire you to write something of your own. Identical letters work against us, as do unprofessionally written letters. Letters should be clear and polite. Please use letterhead. Letters should reference Bill #A5940C. [Patient letters can be a simple, handwritten card or note. I am an acupuncture patient of YOUR NAME, L.Ac.. I have had great improvements with this treatment ADD PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I strongly ask that you sign A5940C into law to allow NYS injured workers to have access to this drug free mode of healthcare. SIGN & DATE] Letters should be mailed via the US Postal Service to the 6 addresses listed below. The letter is addressed to the Governor himself, and copies are sent to 5 other people. That is why the letter is addressed to the Governor. Do not change this. Mail separate letters to Mr Alphonso and Mr Alexander. These two men are key decision-makers on this topic for the Governor. Mail separate letters to both sponsors (Senator Martins and Assemblymember Bronson) because they will be called to defend our bill. Lastly, please mail a copy to ASNY’s president, James Shinol, so that he has these letters when asked to defend the legislation in Albany. (All letters can be addressed to the Governor but mailed to the 6 different addresses) Who Do I Mail Letters To? (6 total) All Letters can be addressed to the Governor. #1: The Honorable Andrew M.
