Here’s to the memories of 2020! Wishing you a very happy new year!

Read Luke chapter 2 in the Bible and reflect on the angels promised peace on earth and good will to men at Jesus’s birth. You can read and ponder independently, you can read Luke 2 virtually with friends or family, or you can record a post of yourself reading a verse of scripture and tag a friend to read the next. Invite your friend to tag another friend to read the next verse... Try to get to verse 20! #LightTheWorld

What a year 2020 has been!

Many volunteers painted a home today to prepare for the arrival of a refugee family. Thank you to everyone who helped out! At times, COVID-19 has made volunteering and serving more challenging but it has also motivated creativity. This masked volunteer group organized themselves into 2-hr shifts to ensure small numbers and distancing in order to help make this house a little more comfortable.... Today at Brigham Young University I shared a message about important issues of our day, including overcoming racism. Personal attitudes and official practices ...of racism are not consistent with the revealed word of God. We know that God created all mortals and we are all children of God. The challenge of racism is not a new one, but recent events have precipitated the current discussion. The shocking police-produced death of George Floyd in Minnesota last May was surely a trigger for nationwide protests in the United States, whose momentum was carried forward under the message of ‘Black Lives Matter.’ Of course Black lives matter! That is an eternal truth all reasonable people should support. Dear friends, let us all heed President Russell M. Nelson's call to repent, to change, and to improve. Only the gospel of Jesus Christ can unite and bring peace to people of all races and nationalities. We who believe in that gospelwhatever our originsmust unite in love of each other and of our Savior, Jesus Christ. President Dallin H. Christmas is a season of light for a reason. Every ray points us toward the Light of the World, Jesus Christ. That is why we celebrate. He was born for you. Today’s challenge to help #LightTheWorld this Christmas season is to open up your Bible to John 8:12, take a picture, and post it to social media with a message about how you have found that Jesus Christ brings light into your life. We wish you a very Merry Christmas! #LightTheWorld2020

A wonderful way to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ is to help feed the hungry, just like He did. . This year many people have experienced financial hardships and other setbacks, and odds are, your local food bank is feeling the strain. Today’s challenge is to make a donation to a food bank, if you’re able, or to give a meal directly to someone in your life who could use it. #LightTheWorld . Here are some local Rochester food banks to consider:... Brighton Food Cupboard - A Program of Jewish Family Service . Community Food Cupboard of Rochester . Barakah Muslim Charity . St. Andrew's Food Cupboard Inc. . Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf . South Wedge Food Program . Cameron Community Ministries . Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf . House of Mercy (Rochester, New York) . New York State Community Action Angels . Geneseo/Groveland Emergency Food Pantry . Foodlink . The Salvation Army Rochester, NY

As we wrap up the #200in2020NY in the Rochester Area, we want to take a minute to highlight these recipient organizations and the invaluable support they provide the vulnerable within our community. We are grateful for their partnership as together we seek to relieve suffering. The goal of the #200in2020NY initiative is to both honor the 1820 birthplace of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and support our communities. Loving our neighbors is at the core of our... beliefs, and we’re so grateful to have the opportunity to serve our neighbors in New York. This has been a wonderful way to celebrate! This project took many hands united in effort as we redistributed 60,000 pounds of food. Thank you to every volunteer who joined together to provide service by sorting, loading, delivering, unloading and more. We look forward to future collaboration, projects and service with each of these organizations! #rocjustserve #justserve
