Reminder: The quarantine period for Sullivan County residents exposed to COVID-19 has been officially shortened to 10 days (previously 14 days), consistent with... new guidance issued by the NYS Health Department. The announcement was made last week. The quarantine time for individuals with COVID-19 will end after 10 days, without a test required, if there are no symptoms reported during the quarantine period. Exposed individuals must continue daily symptom monitoring through day 14 and strict adherence to prevention measures, such as face coverings and hand washing, and immediately self-isolate and seek testing if symptoms develop. This is an important change that aligns New York State guidance with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidance, stated Nancy McGraw, Public Health Director. Although the quarantine period is now shorter, individuals exposed to COVID-19 should still be cautious and self-monitor for any symptoms until day 14 after exposure to someone who tested positive, especially if that is a close family member.
