Behind the Lens: A look into the photographers at Rockville Camera. Mike Cortese @mikeistakingpictures Mike is a self-taught photographer, learning from family, friends, Youtube, the internet and trial & error. He started at 12 using photo mode on a Sony camcorder. His first camera was a Sony Cybershot P&S he received for his birthday. Capturing the moments between him and his friends was what inspired him to start taking pictures. "I began photography as a journal of my lif...e, a way to remember those moments". Today, Mike is shooting with both digital and film cameras... Nikon Z6, Nikon FM2, Yashica-Kyocera Samurai and a recently acquired a Pentax 67. His preferred camera is the Nikon FM2 with Kodak Ektar 100 or Ilford Delta 100. Mike's favorite subjects to shoot are friends, nature, light & shadow, night time. "I'm all over the place and shoot everything from birds to architecture". Mike's inspiration comes from cinematography & movies. He is driven everyday by the urge to just take pictures. "I love the process of finding a subject, framing, getting the exposure, editing and sharing". What he loves the most is the way taking pictures reorients the way he looks at the world. "I am constantly looking for beauty in the mundane and non-noteworthy settings". Final word from Mike...
