Rochester Phoenix Martial Arts 12.11.2020

Yay! Phoenix is opening on the 6th of July! According to NYS all unorganized sports and recreation will be able to open on July 6th. However, things are going to be a bit wonky until we are out of phase four. We are going to be following all the state guidelines for keeping everyone safe and healthy. ... Modified Schedule Monday-Thursday: Little kids 4:30-5:00 Older kids 5:30-6:00 Adults 6:30-7:30 What to Expect When you come to class you need to bring a mask. They are required for classes. Bring your own water or be prepared to purchase one, we cannot provide water from the pitcher. Come already wearing your uniform, as changing room usage is restricted. If possible, try to use the restroom before coming to the dojo. When you arrive you will be given a quick health screening, including a temperature check. Everyone who comes to the dojo needs to be signed in with Sensei Leigh or Brennan. Class Structure Training will be socially distanced. Students will be spaced six feet apart. Each person will have a marked area of the mat, this will give you your own personal space to train in during class. Classes will follow the usual format with warm ups and stretching, and everyone will be guided through the lesson. Unfortunately, once classes are concluded kids need to leave right away. Normally we are more than happy to let kids hang out after classes, but to stay within the guidelines we have to limit who is in the dojo. None of the communal equipment can be used unless specified by the instructors as part of the class. This includes the sparring gear, kick shields, jump ropes, etc. Kids need to be respectful of this rule, and we may need parents to help us enforce this. Uniforms need to be taken home and washed after each class. Anything you bring with you needs to go home with you as well. All adult classes will be grouped into one general class. This way there will be plenty of material for instructors to use and the classes will have more options for solo work. We Can’t Wait to See You All! I know this seems like a lot of crazy adjustments, but it is very important for us to follow the guidelines and recommendations. We don’t want anyone getting sick or feeling unsafe. We promise you will have the same awesome classes you had before COVID. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns See you soon! Leigh and Brennan

Phoenix Friends and Family, We wanted to check in with you all and update you. Brennan and I hope you are all well and able to train, stay healthy, and active during this time. New York is starting to reopen, which is awesome news! That means the cases of COVID-19 are finally starting to decrease. Governor Cuomo has implemented a phased reopening of NY businesses by region, starting with low risk businesses.... What does this mean for Phoenix? Unfortunately, we are not a low risk recreational activity. And while we do have a plan to reopen and keep everyone safe, we cannot do so yet. As businesses reopen, we are hoping our region is able to meet each goal and keep COVID cases in check. We honestly do not know exactly when we will be able to reopen. Our online training is available to all our students. We have online training content available, much of which is designed for solitary practitioners. This can be accessed through our private FB page, or we can send it to you. We are also encouraging students to post videos, or to send them directly to us. We also have Zoom classes, taught by Sensei Brennan and Sensei Jason, twice a week. These are for all ages and are intended for solitary practice. As always you can ask for specific help with training, or request a private Zoom lesson. We know this doesn’t replace in person classes, but for the time being it is the best we can do. It is our hope that all our students are able to reach new milestones and achieve their martial arts goals, despite the circumstances. If you have a question about your membership, or if you have had trouble logging onto our online content, please contact Leigh. We’ve done our best to deliver training in a variety of online formats, and are more than happy to help you access them. Most of you have continued to support us throughout this time, and we deeply thank you for that. As a small business it hasn’t been easy, since our operating costs remain the same despite the pandemic. We truly appreciate you all! Stay healthy and safe out there, friends and family of RPMA. Brennan and Leigh Strimple

We wanted to thank everyone for your support at this crazy time. Several of you sent messages pledging to continue your memberships despite the mandated quarantine. Doing so will allow RPMA to exist after the pandemic is over. It was awesome and really showed me that this isn't just a group of people who work out together, but a family of dedicated martial artists. Your belief in Phoenix means more than you realize. We really appreciate all of you and want to continue help...ing everyone train- especially with the insanity of this whole thing. Our online content will continue to be published daily on Quarantined Jiu Jitsu. If you want more resources, Brennan has tons he can send you. Send us or post your training videos! We will check them out and give you individualized feedback. Some of you will have to suspend your memberships, and we understand that. We are waiving the 30 day rule and canceling them right away. However, the bleak reality is that if too many people cancel there will not be a dojo to come back to. A martial arts school is an expensive business to operate, and unfortunately our overhead will remain the same during this pandemic as it was before it. Together we can get through this. We can stay connected and continue to push each other and train. We can still meet our goals and come out of this better than before. Stay safe and healthy out there, take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

We hope that everyone is staying healthy during quarantine. We miss training and working with everyone. While missing classes is an all around bummer for everyone, we are trying to make the best of the situation. -Daily content is available for students online. Make sure you’ve joined Quarantined Jiu Jitsu. -We are Available to answer questions and go into detail about the online class content. ... -We are planning on having a free seminar for everyone once things go back to normal.

Students and Phoenix Family, We want to continue to help you develop your skills despite the social distancing needed for health amid the pandemic. Shortly, you will all get an invitation to a private group called Quarantined Jiu Jitsu. In this group we will post live classes you can follow along at home. Brennan has been working on some ideas for solo Jiu Jitsu practice. We will also be able to discuss techniques, answer questions, and get some training in together. We will be doing this for kids as well as adults. I know it isn’t the same, but it should help.

Dear students and friends of Phoenix, We care about our students health and the health of your family and friends. As many of you have heard, there are now two confirmed cases of the COVID-19 in Monroe county. Health officials believe there will be more cases in the next week. Social distancing has proven effective in the past in preventing the spread of viruses. We have students who attend Phoenix who have health conditions that can make them susceptible to upper respirator...y infections, who have friends / family who have compromised immune systems, and who are over the age of fifty. We’ve decided to cancel classes until March 23rd. It is recommended that people refrain from large group activities and avoid being in close proximity to others- neither of these is possible with training. Your health and the health of your families matter to us. Training will resume soon. Thanks for your understanding and patience. As always, feel free to contact us with any concerns. Brennan and Leigh can also provide you with some study materials in the meantime.
