Transformation Thursday! A common missing tooth is a lateral incisor. It is one of the front teeth. Instead of making room for an implant (which he could not get until he is done growing and would have to wear a retainer with a fake tooth on it for many years) - the parents and I opted to remove the left one and close the spaces. Symmetry is very important for your smile! And now he doesn’t have to have an implant and has all his own natural teeth This is a case by case ...situation. Sometimes it is better to make room for an implant but this was an excellent option and great result for this young man. Transformation Tuesday - How to stop thumb habits... the 1st and 2nd photos were NOT done with braces. That was all natural changes just by stopping a thumb/finger habit. Unfortunately this kiddo needed a little help with a thumb crib but most kids just need some motivation to stop. If you can stop a habit for 1 full month - typically the habit will cease. #transformationtuesday #stopthumbhabitsearly

Yay!!!! Invisalign Gold status achieved!!! I only recommend treatment that WORKS for you!!! Invisalign is an amazing product IF and ONLY IF it is planned and used by a trained professional. It is not simply having a computer plan the movements... instead I inform the Invisalign technicians how to move the teeth. Check out one of my teen patients progress in only 9 months... and during a pandemic shutdown! He used elastics just like braces but with the Invisalign system. Transformation Tuesday! Sometimes teeth need to be extracted due to unforeseen circumstances. Orthodontics can be an option to close spaces and move teeth forward vs. getting an implant. This was a heroic movement but was a great alternative and successful outcome for this patient. His original class 1 occlusion remained the same. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #transformationtuesday

Congrats to Jen and one of the few adults (of the many I treat) that let me share photographs. She finished up in 13 months with braces . Adult treatment can be difficulty because you aren’t growing anymore and simple fixes often times are not simple. Teeth, gums, and bone need to be healthy and uncontrolled movements can lead to recession or tooth loss if not done properly.
