Speedgolfers from New York and around the country return to Ro...me next weekend to race against the clock at Teugega Country Club and Rome Country Club in Rome, N.Y. for the Thirsty Owl New York Speedgolf Open on August 8-9, 2021. Professional Speedgolfers will vie for a $3,000 purse, with the champion earning $1,200. In 2021, the annual state championship of Speedgolf moves to a 2-day, 36 hole format with the first round to be contested at Teugega Country Club, site of the NYS 91st Women’s Amateur Championship, on Sunday afternoon starting at 4pm. Teugega is proud to be a part of the 2021 Speedgolf USA Tour Series, said club president Doug Bartell. We welcome the participants to our historic Donald Ross track and wish them good luck. The second round will commence at Rome Country Club the following morning at 8am. In 2019, local event hosts Lauren and Wes Cupp both shot rounds of 2-under 70 in well under an hour the last time the tournament was held at Rome Country Club in 2019. "It sounds crazy, but it’s actually an exhilarating experience," Wes Cupp said. "Playing golf quickly, you'd be amazed at how well you play. I actually think I play better running with 5 clubs than I do in four and a half hours with all 14 clubs. It's more natural, more instinctual, more creative, and you don't get in your own way like you often do with [traditional] golf." Both courses will be set up similarly in total distance and course length. The men will play from roughly 6,100 yards, the women from 5,100 yards, and all players will traverse just over 4 miles from the 1st tee to the 18th green in their bid to go fast and shoot low. We will open tomorrow morning, with carts, at 9:30. Dust those clubs off and get some fresh air. Special note: Promotional members (weekday morning, pick two, etc.) can come at anytime or day this week. No restrictions! Woo hoo!
