With this beautiful weather, it's time to fire up the grill! We have a nice supply of pork chops to grill whole or cut up for pork kabobs!

On any working farm birth and death are a regular part of life. This spring, one of our favorite goats passed away, and we wanted to share why she was so special. A number of years ago we acquired six goats following the death of George Castle. Over the years, five of those goats moved out of our system, but one remained: Goofus - aptly named because she was a very goofy goat. When she first arrived at Roo Haven Farm, it was immediately apparent that she had never left the ...barn at Castle Farm. She was terrified of outdoors, especially grass! We would drag her outside, and she would turn around and run back into the pen, hollering for the other goats to come keep her company. Eventually she outgrew that fear, and indeed became fearless about going out to pasture by herself to graze, even at night in the dark! But Goofus was best known as Gramma Goofus, the stealer of babies. She loved babies, ALL the babies, and took every opportunity to encourage other baby goats to nurse on her (and steal them for her own) -- even when she didn't have any milk! She loved being milked, and was one of our best producers. She would patiently stand on the milking stand waiting for grain, or a head rub, or a good scratch on the rump. If she saw us walking by the barn, she would call out for us to come and visit her, where in exchange for a little attention, she would rub your back with her head. She had a mind of her own, and when the other goats went out to pasture, she was generally munching away in a different field. At her passing, Goofus was 12 years, quite old in goat years. As we await her daughter Clara's first kidding, we feel very blessed to have had her with us for so many years, and she will certainly be missed. See more

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) today recognized NOFA-NY as one of the top 10 certification agencies for excellence in data reporting. As a Certified Organic farm, the integrity of our product claims are reliant upon our inspectors collecting reliable, detailed, and accurate data about our operations. When we were originally looking for a certification agency, we specifically selected NOFA-NY because they were more strident in following the NOP regulations, and for ...the thoroughness of its inspectors. Congratulations to NOFA-NY and to our inspectors Sherryl and Chuck for their continued good work to ensure the integrity of the organic seal! The Organic INTEGRITY Database makes information on current and former certified organic operations publicly available online from anywhere in the world. It allows users to quickly confirm the organic certification status and other details of a farm or business and helps certifiers support the organic community in fraud prevention.

It's National Bacon Day! We recently sent in 6 pigs for processing, and expect to have 3 kinds of Certified Organic Bacon available once again by the 3rd week in January. Great things to look forward to in 2021! https://nationaltoday.com/national-bacon-day/

"The truth is that hunger and our health have become political considerations, not medical ones. And we know how to fix our food issues. What we lack is the leadership."
