FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fire Fighters Save Christmas! This evening, RFD volunteers were alerted for a sleigh accident with one male in distress. On arrival, f...irefighters found one sleigh that had struck a roof and a male occupant was ejected hanging on to the roof, uninjured. RFD units quickly accessed the occupant and sleigh via their aerial ladder. With the assistance of Brandl's Towing, the sleigh was secured and removed from the roof as well. Quick response from RFD volunteers mitigated this event with no injuries. On investigation, it was determined that during a routine Pre-Christmas training exercise, Santa Clause experienced turbulence and had to make an emergency landing. Please come by this evening and see our display for the Hyde Park Merry & Bright: A Holiday Driving Tour.

Tonight, Roosevelt FD volunteers came together and stuffed supply bags for school students in our area! With great teamwork, 15 volunteers put together 861 bags... in only 1.5 hrs! Unfortunately, we are currently living in a very trying time. These bags hold simple school supplies to ensure each student will have a good base of supplies to help with this school year. This is another great example of how Roosevelt Volunteers do more than just respond to emergencies. We are a group of neighbors helping neighbors, and we are always in need of more. Your RFD fire and EMS volunteers proudly serve the community 24/7/365. If you or anyone is interested in joining please email: [email protected] or stop by any station Monday nights after 7 pm.

Tonights drill was on familiarization of SCBA equipment, mask confidence and filling air bottles. While some were filling air bottles, interiors were amazingly squeezing thru frame studs 16 and then 12 inches apart! Afterwards they had to follow a firehose thru an obstacle course in the dark. Thank you Ryan Palmer for setting up the drill. It was a small crowd, but everyone was involved.

Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children. former President George W. Bush WE MUST NEVER FORGET!

This afternoon RFD was dispatched for the report of smoke in the building at a commercial establishment on Salt Point Turnpike. Multiple RFD units responded as... well as a mutual aid engine from the Pleasant Valley Fire Company. Approximately 40 volunteer members operated for about an hour and a half in the high heat searching for the source and isolating the problem. To minimize heat stress and injuries members received rehab services on the scene from the Roosevelt Fire Department - Rescue Squad and support personnel. The roadway was closed for a period of time by RFD fire police. No injuries were reported. RFD's quick response contained the damage to a small section of the building. RFD was also assisted on and off the scene by Central Hudson, Town of Hyde Park Police, Town of Hyde Park, NY building inspector, and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response. Your RFD volunteers are here for the community 24/7/365. If you or anyone is interested in joining please email: [email protected] or stop by any station Monday nights after 7 pm.

Roosevelt members spent the evening training on overland search and rescue techniques. 2 'patients' were lost and stuck down an embankment, which required several different skills to be coupled together for a successful outcome. Members trained on using rope rescue equipment; which consisted of using a stokes rescue basket, a pulley system to provide mechanical advantage, and anchoring points. The membership also practiced patient packaging, use of ATVs, and crew accountability. These tasks allow Roosevelt to provide overland search and rescue throughout all of the State and National Park spaces, as well as private areas, in the District.
