The end of the school year is always a time for joy and excitement, and having fun with friends is what Rocky Point High School freshman Avery Ward was doing du...ring lunch period one day last week when she started choking on a French fry. As another student went to get help from a cafeteria aide, custodian Dave Cook bolted across the school cafeteria to assist her. Mr. Cook quickly assessed the situation and performed the Heimlich Maneuver as Avery started to breathe again. We are so grateful for Mr. Cook’s quick response and decisive actions, Principal Jonathan Hart said. We are extremely proud to have him as part of our TEAM Rocky Point High School. Mr. Cook in turn was grateful for the placement of the Heimlich Maneuver posters in the cafeteria that he walked past daily in his work in the district for more than 20 years. Humbled by this experience, it brought back a memory to Mr. Cook that he had also used the life-saving skill on his 7-year-old son more than 17 years ago. Thank you Mr. Cook - you make us all Rocky Point Proud!

It is with deep regret and heavy hearts to announce Honoree Chief, Ex-Commissioner, Ex-Captain of Co.4 and 66 year member has answered his last alarm. Al was one of the kindest people you'd meet and despite his 6 decades of service he was still coming down to the firehouse for alarms during the pandemic. It's a rarity to see someone so dedicated to their community for so many years and it certainly takes a special someone to do it. Al "Sonny" Tizzano MARCH 20, 1934 JUNE 12, 2021 TIZZANO, Al on June 12, 2021, 66 year resident of Rocky Point, New York. Beloved husband of Lilly Tizzano. Loving father of Elena Tizzano, Lisa Desmond (James) and Frank Tizzano. Cherished grandfather of Olivia and Lia. Dear brother of Anna Sambucci and the late Elena Counihan and the late Marie Stasi. Al was and Ex-Commissioner, Ex-Company IV Captain and Honorary Chief with 66 years of service to the Rocky Point Fire Department. He was also a charter member of the St. Jude Council #5814, Knights of Columbus of Rocky Point and a former member of the Rocky Point Lions Club. Al also served his church being an Usher at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church in Rocky Point. Reposing at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place. Visitation Tuesday, June 15th, 7-9 pm & Wednesday, June 16th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021, 9:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Rocky Point. Entombment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Pinelawn, New York.

Remembering the heroes of D day

Our Mother's Day Plant Sale will be this Saturday (5/8) 8am-5pm and Sunday (5/9) from 8am-1pm. Come on down and get your Mom flowers, it's the least you can do after all the grey hairs you gave or will give her.

Rocky Point N.Y- On Saturday April 10th at about 12:30 PM the Rocky Point Fire Department was activated for a reported structure fire on Triton Rd off Friendshi...p Drive. on arrival the first due chief found a large 2 story home that was under construction that was well involved. Rocky Point Truck 14 and Engines 17 and 15 arrived on scene quickly and lines were stretched from the engines and the tower ladder was also set up. Wading River was also requested for an Engine and sent 6-3-11 to the scene along with chiefs 30 and 31. Brookhaven National Laboratory was the RIT team on scene for the duration of the assignment. Firefighters were able to make an aggressive attack and get the fire under control with the units on scene. On arrival Wading River was put to work to assist with Secondary searches and the extensive overhaul operation that needed to be done. Ridge Fire Department stood by for Rocky Point and handled their additional alarms. Fire Police Rocky point and Wading River closed the roads in the area of the fire while firefighters operated for scene safety. The fire scene was turned over to the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals office who were investigating the cause.
