Tonight, the City Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) approved RGB Order No. 53, which will go into effect for renewal and vacancy leases commencing between October 1, 2021 and September 30, 2022. Despite concerns that Mayor Bill de Blasio would once again call for the Board to enact a complete rent freeze in his last year in office while the COVID-19 pandemic still impacted thousands of rent-stabilized tenants, the Board took into consideration various arguments made by RSA, as well... as testimony from RSA members. Although we advocated for much higher rent increases, the increases approved by the Board provide a clear indication that the plight of rent-stabilized property owners resonated with Board Members to some degree this year. Below is a summary of Rent Guidelines Board Order No. 53: One-year lease: 0% for the first six months, 1.5% for the last six months Two-year lease: 2.5%
