At the cape cottage a Privet hedge had grown for the 66 years we have lived there without the top being pruned. It has withstood countless hurricanes and nor’easters without much damage. However, a 9 degree plunge in temperatures last winter killed the top on the 26-30 foot hedge. I decided to cut down the hedge to Five feet, 6 trailer loads of brush to the organic landfill. We cleaned up the mess and preyed for rejuvenation of the hedge. I though it would work, hoped it would work, and willed it to work. What do you know but it came screaming back. Now to figure out the height to maintain it to????

One of my most enjoyable projects is planting a tree for a fallen friend. So for you John, I plant a Tulip tree. It can grow to 100 feet, has a yellow flower in the spring, and the dried up flower persists on the tree in the winter giving it 3 seasons of interest. This tree was donated by your friends Mike, Jeff, and myself and placed on Culver Ave on the entrance to the Proctor Parks.
