In Happy moments, PRAISE GOD. Difficult moments SEEK GOD. Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD. Painful moments, TRUST GOD Every moment, THANK GOD Rick Warren Following Christ will entail both persecution and blessings, our Lord makes this clear when Peter’s question to him sounded to be out for a self-interested, transactional mind-set Mark 10:28-30 Peter said to our Lord, "Look now! We have left everything and have become your followers was like what is there for us or what is our ...destiny? This is much like our world seems to function. If you give up this, then you get that. This goes to the root of our personal motivations. Many people will say and expect, I am willing to give up something important like possessions, state, or security if I receive something of greater value in return. In the story we read how our Lord meets Peter where he is and engages him on the level of transaction, promising him what any investor would jump at: a hundred-fold return on investment and eternal life. Who would think twice at this? But here is something unusual about this. Jesus tells Peer that while the return will be beyond what is imaginable, it will come with persecution, exposure to risk and a great cost. This is not the normal way we think of risk and reword. The way of discipleship is more than renouncing personal possessions and status. It is a rejection of the entire system of status and reordering of what matters. The cost of discipleship is to relinquish the pursuit of personal reword so that we can created space in our hearts for those that the world does not see. Abundance comes when we recognize that those who are last are actually part of us. They belong to us and we belong to them. Their joy becomes our joy. Their persecution becomes our persecution. When we let go the personal pursuit of reword and the fear of scarcity there is only abundance through a newfound solidarity with all those Jesus calls his own. Fr. Symon See more
