Statement of Support and Plan For Students and Faculty of Color We, the faculty of Department of Communications, are aware of and distressed by the levels of systemic racism not only in our country, but also in how such ideologies seep into our educational institutions. We are committed to standing up for racial justice, empowering and promoting students of color, diversifying our faculty, and modifying our curricula and pedagogy to incorporate anti-racist methods and ideologies.

Tune in Wednesday night, February 10, for some answers. Moderated by Dr. Gerry Lorentz, dean of the School of Arts and Humanities and a beer scholar, the discussion, starting at 7 p.m., continues our monthly virtual alumni series. From Mary Alice: It is with deep sadness that I note the passing of Pat Filien, a COM graduate of the class of 1993. Pat was also for a time a basketball coach here and a member of the College's Admissions team. Pat had an amazing, deep connection to our department and would often just "drop in" to one of my classes. That usually resulted in a giant bear hug and laughter all around. When a man who is 6'7" tall gives you a hug, it's a truly memorable experience!! He deeply loved his classmates, many of whom I have heard from in the last 2 days, his team mates, and of course, his family. Please keep Pat's family in your thoughts. I'm attaching a link to today's Times Union article about Pat's passing. Godspeed big man! https://www.timesunion.com//Longtime-area-player-and-coach
